This Day in History: February 5

The enemy are ‘penetrating this country.’ Lord Cornwallis is at the Trading Ford, preparing to cross the Yadkin River. The American army ‘is collecting at this place; and if the militia will turn out and give support to the army, I have not a single doubt but that we shall be able to stop his [Cornwallis’s] progress.’ The officer is to assemble the militia of Guilford and neighboring counties, with six days provisions. He is to order the county commissioners to send provisions to the army, which ‘is entirely without.’ He is also to send to NG the ‘most intelligible’ man he knows who is ‘well acquainted’ with the roads, distances, and the ‘best settlements and plentifullest place for obtaining provisions.’ The officer should reply as soon as possible.” [More]

Axiom 3

"How to Restore the West" and Axioms 1 and 2 precede this, and are linked at the end. What I'm interested in is Axiom 4, "how to organize and structure the restoration of our individual states back to the Articles," not yet posted, and the remaining Axioms to outline how we're supposed to get from here to there. Judging by the ruthless history of those in power, I don't imagine they'll go gentle into that good night. Judging from what I've read so far, I'm going to assume the author is well aware of that and will address that.

Falling on Deaf Ears

It's worse than that:
During the hearing, many pro-rights supporters were shocked and offended that Senator Beth Bye was ignoring testimony to use social media that included mocking and complaining of the pro-rights people testifying and even going so far to ‘participate’ through Twitter in a ‘drinking game’ that sought to mock the people she is supposed to represent.

Doctors Insist on Right to Give Auto Transmission Repair Tips

As far as training and certification go, it makes as much sense as counseling on "gun safety." [Read]

Note none of the self-appointed "experts" are willing to tell us where they got their knowledge from, or guarantee that it is qualified advice.

And here's a clue for Dr. Wollschlager on why some of us might not be comfortable with doctors getting any information on patients and guns, especially since, as Rep. Fleming notes, "There are existing laws which ensure that doctors alert law enforcement to criminal activities that they become aware of in the course of their practice." Aside from the fact that the antis are desperately trying to find ways to cast a blanket dragnet without due process that could place a physician in the position of choosing between patient confidentiality or keeping his license to practice, the good doctor might want to ask Dad...

This gets me wondering though...if, by going to a doctor I could tell him things he would be required to report to the "authorities," that is, incriminating myself to a de facto law enforcement agent, shouldn't part of the informed consent process require him to notify me that anything I say can and will be used against me in a court of law?Probably not, since I wouldn't be under arrest, but it does make me wonder where you draw the line between "Don't talk to the police" and "Don't talk to doctors."

Snafu keeps gun dealers in jail as attorney urges investigation of prosecutors

“They are waiting for the ankle monitors to get in for the release. United States Probation is getting them,” it was explained.

What this means is, the only reason the father and son have not already been released and must wait until at least Monday to be able to rejoin their family, is because those holding them are unable to comply with the judge’s order, and made no preparations anticipating the likely potential that a prosecution relying on suppression of evidence to win convictions might be overruled. The Big Game

When I did my radio show announcement (see post below), I checked if today's Super Bowl was going to be running at the same time.  It starts at 6 p.m. Eastern.

I honestly am so detached from that I didn't even know who was playing until I went to the CBS website.  I guess I've heard there's a football team called the Ravens before, but the whole thing is generally so not part of my universe, except when they make it so.

Like the Bloomberg-Menino commercial last year.

Or that moron Scott Whitlock.

Or that meathead Mike Ditka.

And while tonight's big game will be on a different network, don't be surprised to see a Bob Costas moment or two, what with the Newtown students pre-game song and the comment opportunities that will lend, as well as the latest Leni Riefenstahl short from Bürgermeister gegen Guns, thankfully confined to the cheer-leading section.

Mark's other guests will include trainer Rob Pincus, SAF's Alan Gottlieb, radio pro Joe Weaver, George "Mad Ogre" Hill and AAR producer Sean C. Killing the Messenger

See?

When both The New York Times and The Washington Post are out there blaring the same talking points, you just know her message scares the hell out of the powers that be.

And the thing is, their arguments are the same old stale, discredited ones, dusted off for this latest character assassination/disinformation campaign. Note they make no attempt to separate women living in criminal environments from the general population. Note also they limit DGUs to when a gun is "fired" for their comparison, as opposed to the mere presentation that can break off an attack with no further action needed. What that does is penalizes good armed citizens for not being the bloodthirsty trouble-seekers they paint us to be.

UPDATE: Naturally, Salon piles on. Hey Katie McDonough--let's say hypothetically a male (I don't honor such types by calling them "men") is getting ready to do whatever the hell he wants to you, and there's no one around to save you. What would you do? And Slate...

Things to Come?

"There is absolutely no deterrent in technology except against those who would abide by the law, and for them I see harassment, denials, and increased costs," said David Codrea, author of The War on Guns. Another concern would be that someone with nefarious motives could hack the system via some sort of "master key," said Codrea. Such fears, along with costs, could certainly limit adoption. [More]

Gun owners squandering valuable resources by ignoring social media

Not wanting to be bothered with details in an ideological conflict is intentionally putting on blinders. It’s like soldiers on the battlefield not wanting to know about enemy positions, capabilities, movements and logistics. In war time and in peace, people die to obtain such information, and people die from the lack of it, and yet we have a significant percentage of self-styled activist gun owners who not only don’t care, but disparage and discourage its collection and dissemination. Another Route: For Whom the Bus Rolls

But critics say that this focus unfairly singles out people with serious mental illness, who studies indicate are involved in only about 4 percent of violent crimes and are 11 or more times as likely than the general population to be the victims of violent crime.

And many proposals — they include strengthening mental health services, lowering the threshold for involuntary commitment and increasing requirements for reporting worrisome patients to the authorities — are rushed in execution and unlikely to repair a broken mental health system, some experts say. [More]

Liberty will not be won by scapegoating anyone, or throwing anyone under the bus.

Anyone who can't be trusted with a gun can't be trusted without a custodian, and that must not be allowed to happen without full respect for individual rights.  We all must be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
