CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/19/08

I hinted yesterday that we'd be celebrating something today. If a human year is like seven years to a dog, then today is the first anniversary--in dog years--of CeaseFire PA's failure to acknowledge Professor Alexander Tristan Riley on it's Board of Director's page.

So in commemoration of this special occasion, I hope you'll join me in congratulating them on reaching this milestone: It's probably the biggest achievement they've ever accomplished, so feel free to sign the card and leave your special wishes for them below.

Happy Doggiversary, ya crazy mutts you...Funny though. I haven't heard much yapping from either them or Alex lately, have you...?

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/16/08

Let's have a contest:

Will CeaseFire PA formally welcome professor Alexander Tristan Riley into their hallowed ranks by updating their director's website to include his name, will they or he issue some statement saying he cannot accept the position due to whatever reason, or will they all just continue to ignore this?

If it turns out to be one of the first two possibilities, either listing him or disaffiliating from him, what Day Number do you think it will happen on?

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/12/08

Why don't you CeaseFire PA people just be honest and...uh...wait a minute, I forgot who I was speaking to.

Never mind.

A Bit of Lag Time, Perhaps?

Metro Philadelphia, Nov, 29, 2007:

...Riley, a sociologist and new member of CeaseFire PA’s board of directors.

The statewide gun-control group, arguably Pennsylvania’s most visible and expansive, added four new board members yesterday.
Ceasefire PA's Board of Directors page, as of today:

Huh. Notice anything missing?

Considering they've had over a month now, and with all that computer expertise in their corner, I think they'd at least be able to update a webpage to include their new directors.

Wonder what the holdup is? I'd think anyone fortunate enough to align themselves with a distinguished member of academia would lose no time publicly capitalizing on that. Surely they're proud of it?

Oh well, I'm sure they'll take care of the oversight and advertise their new affiliation soon into the New Year after everybody's back from the holidays, don't you think? In the mean time, just to make sure they don't forget, perhaps the following daily reminder might be helpful?

Rally in PA

Hundreds of gun rights supporters and several dozen pro-gun lawmakers are expected to gather in the Capitol today for the third annual Right to Bear Arms Rally.

I wonder if anyone from Ceasefire PA will show up?

If they do, I hope someone from our side asks 'em "Where's Wald...uh...Alex?"

Maybe they're all hung over and sleeping in after yesterday's party...?

The One Thing That's Missing...

Begin transcript about half-way down page:
Finder, along with a group called Ceasefire PA has launched a grassroots campaign to get local governments to sign on to what's become a highly controversial law called "Lost and Stolen Ordinances." Supporters of gun rights hate it. The ordinances require gun owners to report if their weapons have been lost or stolen usually within 24 hours. [More]
The one thing that's never mentioned in this--and I wish the pro-gun people they interview would pick up on this--is there is one group that will always be immune to these stupid edicts: the criminals who are causing the problem.

Why, you ask?

Since they're "prohibited persons," how can you compel them to incriminate themselves if their gun is stolen? And since they're "prohibited persons," they can't "legally" own guns in the first place.

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch Weekly Update

I forgot to put this up yesterday--guess I'll need to get used to a weekly, rather than daily schedule.

Looks like ATR is still persona non grata...but the good thing is, he's sure been quiet lately...

I wonder if the university told him to put a lid on it...?

A McFate Worse than...Well, Not Really

Ceasefire PA finally booted Mary from their roster.

Still no word on Alex.

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/23/08

I've been feeling kind of alone in trying to get appropriate recognition for achievement, so I figured the college paper might be interested...

I don't get it. I'm sure they know about this.

Why won't they update their page...?

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/09/08

I'm starting to get worried. Maybe someone should knock on the door and see if everybody's OK in there...?

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch: 01/06/08

Well, it's Sunday morning. They're probably all in church. You know, those places that host "gun buybacks," where the ministers advise their flocks to "snuff out" people with different ideologies...

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch Weekly Update

I've decided this doesn't merit a daily update. After reading a comment by TJH, I was considering doing it in spates, but for now will go with weekly updates.

Damned American Gun Shows!

UC Davis report finds gun shows as leading source of guns used in crimes...

This unique report includes hundreds of hidden-camera photographs and video taken from 78 gun shows in 19 states, detailing how American gun shows have become leading sources of crime guns for Northern California, the United States, Mexico and Canada. Also emphasized is the link between gun shows and extreme right-wing political activities and specific action recommendations.

Starring Wal...uh...Garen Wintemute!

I tried warning people to be on the lookout.

Can you imagine the howls of outrage--hell, the lawsuits-- had Mary McFate sneaked cameras into Ceasefire PA meetings? And speaking of which, anybody ever figure out what happened to Alex...?

It'll be interesting to see the report itself. I'm sure it will be chock-full of Witemutean colon clenching...

It will also be interesting to see if any of the gun shows or individuals have recourse based on what and who he secretly recorded.

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch

In case you hadn't noticed, the graphic is now in the left margin, under the blogroll. I'm not going to do more than update it once a week without additional comment, unless and until our dear friend Professor Alexander Tristan Riley gets the official recognition we so sincerely want him to have.

CeaseFire PA Director's Watch

Well, in fairness, the day is still young. I bet they'll get right on this and proudly acknowledge their new affiliation real soon. Maybe by tomorrow this reminder will go away, and we can get about the business of asking them "Why?" instead of "Why not?"
