And They Shall Be as Gods

Should someone with the files for a 3D printed gun be charged with the same crime as someone who actually has the gun?  [More]

"Staunch defender of the Second Amendment" John Cornyn approves!

[Via DDS]

And as long as we're on the subject:
Facing gun and ammo shortages during the pandemic, internet searches among Americans for 3D printed pistols surged.

Wayne's World

“This is the type of cleanup I would expect to see after a history of gross violations of nonprofit law”... [More]

Tell me this doesn't make you want to pay top dollar for mixed message swag!

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the cognitive dissonance of being shot to death by a SWAT team in a confiscation raid while wearing an NRA "Come and take it" cap AND an NRA "thin blue line" t-shirt.

UPDATE: This one illustrates a conflict of interest. That's a point I expect to be addressing soon in an update to my "intervenor" piece.

Remember the Kid Who Used to Tattle to the Teacher?

NBC News Supplies YouTube a List of Videos to Delete & Channels to Demonetize [More]

They're leaving no stone unturned in their fanatical obsession to destroy voices that don't amplify theirs.

Nodding and laughing, the "Authorized Journalist" comes across as understanding and accomodating, doesn't he? The reason I typically decline to speak with agents of the DSM is that my default assumption is they're out to destroy sources they disagree with, not protect them.

[ViaDDS]

UPDATE - And no sooner do I get done posting the above than this comes in:
The New York Times Is Protected by Freedom of the Press. So Is James O'Keefe. The newspaper wrongly implies that press freedom is limited to "real" journalists. [More]
That's why I call 'em The Newsraper of Record.

Intended Consequences?

The question is worth asking because if Senate Democrats get their way, they’ll weaponize S230 reform to target online gun marketplaces. Conservatives urging repeal of Section 230 are playing right into their hands. [More]

Yow.

Now what?

[Via DDS]

Tangentially-Related UPDATE:
But applied to entities such as Facebook that handle millions of items of third-party content a day, the laissez-faire approach threatens free speech by concentrating unchecked censorial power in the hands of a few companies.  [More]
So "Damned if we do, damned if we don't" is the best anyone can come up with?

What's to Hear?

Supreme Court agrees to hear Trump’s plan to remove non-citizens from census [More]

Don't worry. Joe will make it moot.

Good thing this has nothing to do with that "single issue"!

[Via TM]

UPDATE:
The sweeping language chosen by the Framers requires that the “whole immigrant population should be numbered with the people and counted as part of them,” as John Bingham argued during the debates over the Fourteenth Amendment.
You guys at Slate wouldn't happen to have any cites that actually quote the Framers, would you?

Supermarket Sweep

Kroger Bans Open Carry, Asks Congress to Pass More Gun Control [More]
I'd say "respectfully asking" is a bit different than "bans" if it doesn't come attached with a call to the "Only Ones." It's the "urging Congress to pass more gun control" part that bothers me.

I wonder who the snitch is.

The Best Laid Schemes

The right has recognized that the system is in collapse, and it has a plan: violence and solidarity with treasonous far-right factions [More]

Spoken like a tru[deau] Canadian.

I wish someone would explain to me how all this is organized because herding cats is getting tiresome.

Stroke of the Pen, Law of the Land. Kind'a Cool.

Where the Gun-Control Movement Goes Silent - In decades of advocacy for restrictions on access to firearms, there’s never been an organized effort to rewrite the Second Amendment. Don’t expect one to start now. [More]
Consider the source and its agenda.

And it wouldn't invalidate the right even if they did.

But thanks for once more confirming the end game.

Feet of Clay

Why are so many people in the business of being likable actually so unlikable? [More]

My money's on "Because they're narcissists and psychopaths."

The Operative Word is 'Might'

From a purely political standpoint, Democrats are thus trapped in a gun-control paradox. The policies that are popular — like registration and background checks — are also utterly ineffective; the laws that might work — like confiscating guns or banning new sales — are wildly unpopular. [More]
Not to mention wildly provocative to the point of they don't want to go there.

Or do they?

Ugly Little Liar

Klobuchar’s claim of a loophole is accurate to the extent that the law does not apply to a boyfriend who is or was simply dating the victim, but not sharing a residence or children. [More]
Why does Joke #4 come to mind?

I guess with Troian vulnerable for breaking California gun laws or being a real-life little liar, they need a new champion.

What Did They Expect?

The Council of Licenced Firearm Owners (COLFO) says it has evidence confirming unauthorised access to a police database containing the personal details of gun owners. [More]
And that surprises who?

I'm wondering why we have to wait until the last sentence of the last paragraph to find out this is happening in New Zealand. Tommy Lee could have saved me some time.

Wake me when there's a Council of Unlicensed Firearm Owners. Because we've already seen what listening to the Judenrat results in.

A Bit on the Expansive Side

[W]e are given a tight shot on how easily abusive personalities can radicalize the disillusioned . . . which is entirely relevant at the moment. [More]

Yes, but while Salon clearly intends a Trump/flyover whites comparison, the analogy works better with the left ginning up racial resentments.

That said, "Designate people as a joke for long enough and eventually they'll make it their mission to turn their oppressors into a punchline" does seem applicable.

Flaws aside, I consider The Expanse the best SciFi show out there, and one of the best shows. The thing I find most unbelievable about it is the UN presiding over a planetary society capable of such technical advances, as innovation is ever a byproduct of personal incentive-based freedom, with repressive regimes more generally relying on stolen technology and imitation. But then again, Star Trek had its United Federation of Planets...

More Promising Soil

A lot of my friends are trying to reclaim the GOP and make it a conservative party once again ... I’m content, as my hero Isaiah Berlin put it, to plant myself instead on the rightward edge of the leftward tendency—in the more promising soil of the moderate wing of the Democratic Party. [More]

The Atlantic. Figures. Although I suppose we should thank them for the unintended tip.

And how does that "moderate wing" vote on guns, on judges, and on censuring the growing power base of outright communist radicals ...?

Ever notice how people who presume to be smarter than you are often just cognitively dissonant snobs who presume to live above what is imposed on their lessers?

The media loves such "conservatives," because by presenting self-important fools like this as such, they can portray the rest of us as extremists, haters, white supremacists, fascists... you know, all the terms shared by Antifa and the FBI. Meanwhile, the useful idiots will feel respected and important until his new "friends" decide he's become a useless eater, and that more promising soil becomes covered with lime.
