'Smart' Politics
Glenn Youngkin, GOP nominee for Virginia governor, goes mum on guns and abortion [More]
But...but...but he's always showed such commitment to principle...
And who hasn't heard this disingenuous excuse-making every time the party proffers a weasel?
But some conservative Republicans — hungry for a win after losing every statewide contest for the past dozen years — seem to be greeting Youngkin’s messaging shift as a smart way to appeal to a wider, general-election audience.
Who else are we gonna vote for, right? Eat it and be grateful.
And for some industrial-grade weasel-wording, how's this for an excuse for refusing to answer NRA's questionnaire?
Youngkin’s campaign spokesperson Macaulay Porter provided the following statement Wednesday. "Glenn is a gunowner and a lifetime member of the NRA who will defend Virginians' Second Amendment rights. That’s one reason conservatives and groups like The Middle Resolution are supporting him. Politicians love to fill out surveys, but just like President Trump, Glenn isn’t a politician and isn’t spending all his time filling out surveys. Glenn is traveling Virginia, meeting with voters, and telling them exactly what he believes. The best way to protect your Second Amendment rights is to nominate Glenn so he can win in November. "
Oh, well, then I take back everything I said.

Removal of Gun Prohibitionist from Crime Panel Crucial Test for Youngkin
That’s why booting Haas from the Crime Commission will be a crucial indicator of what kind of relief and advancement gun owners will be able to expect from Youngkin once he assumes power. That’s because it’s not only her militant anti-gun political agenda that disqualifies her from serving on a panel that is supposed to consider the rights of all citizens, but she has deliberately libeled them. Then, instead of righting her wrong, and offering a genuinely sincere apology, she has tried to hide what she did in the hope that no one who could do anything about it would notice. [More]

Three Questions for Gun Lobby Ally Glenn Youngkin... [More]
Interesting though, how the left still has to lie about who they are...

Youngkin tests activists' patience as he pushes abortion and guns aside [More]

Under the Gun
VA governor’s race a toss-up; gun owners could swing it [More]
Youngkin hasn't exactly inspired enthusiasm.
McAwful, on the other hand, is relying on ginning up the fear and spooking the herd. That and he's bringing out the big gun.
Who was it who said it's best to avoid the gun issue? Oh, right, Republican campaign advisors. And that's direct from a source who has spoken to Youngkin.

Youngkin at Heart
It’s hardly a secret why he stiff-armed the NRA, despite being a self-proclaimed lifelong member: that endorsement will hurt him in the suburbs. [More]
That's consistent with what I've been told -- that professional campaign Vichycons have told him it doesn't poll well.
So he's ashamed to bring us to the dance but we can wait in the back seat for when he can get to us? What have been the long-term effects been of telling Republicans they can treat desperate gun owners like their bitches and get away with it?
Youngkin is in the unique position of having a bully pulpit to refute gun-grabber lies and have his message heard. That he won't is a combination of misplaced political opportunism and cowardice -- and the fact that he probably can't -- meaning he probably buys into many of them. The investment firm he headed certainly does.
Dousing the fire in the bellies of a core constituency is no way to win an election.
And it shouldn't be.

Bullet Dodged. Now What?
95% of VA Counties are 2A Sanctuaries. 93% Voted for Youngkin. Coincidence? [More]
I guess the others just didn't have enough fire in their bellies.
The usual suspects are exploiting his "win" not as a repudiation of control freak Democrat incompetence and arrogance, but of the principles that got Trump elected -- so expect to see more "moderate" Republicans try to reconstitute that formula.
As for Democrats, the Old Guard wants to blame the Young Radicals for scaring people. For their part, the new kids are emboldened by their weakness.
And no surprise here:
"But in substance, Democrats see an extremist with softer packaging."
Youngkin didn't want to speak out for us when he needed us. Before celebrating too hard, why not see what he'll do now that he doesn't.

Youngkin at Heart
He must be one of us!
Richard Cullen to leave McGuireWoods to serve as counselor to Youngkin [More]
The same enemy inside the gates who said this?
The proposed restrictions have also received strong backing from Richard Cullen, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who says gunrunners consider Virginia a "handgun supermarket."
"They come into the state and go into a store and buy handguns by the dozens, with hardly a question asked," Mr. Cullen said. "Then they haul the guns north and sell them on the street for cash or drugs at profits of 300 and 400 percent. No other East Coast state has gun laws as lax as Virginia's laws -- not South Carolina, not Georgia, not Florida. Nobody. This has to stop."... "New laws aren't the answer to this problem," said S. Vance Wilkins Jr., the House minority leader who is a major opponent of restrictions on gun sales ... Mr. Cullen disagrees. "We've tried everything else," he said, "and now we've got to take extra steps."
And this?
U.S. Attorney Richard Cullen, a Republican who joined forces with Democrat Wilder to boost the idea, said passage of the bill "will have a substantial impact on gun trafficking out of Virginia."

As Gutless as He Is Unprincipled
Youngkin’s campaign, reached for comment, did not directly address the NRA’s endorsement but said Youngkin “will work to make it harder for criminals to get guns.” [More]
Everyone realizes that refusing to comply with citizen disarmament edicts makes you a "criminal," right?
Told you this guy was a weasel. If this is the best Republicans can come up with, let them lose until they field someone acceptable. Because the other way around is much of how we got here.

Telling Gun Owners ‘Trust Me’ is No Way for Youngkin to Win Election

I understand their co-founder was coming for more than Glenn.
It does kind'a make you wonder -- if a squish is too "extreme" for them -- which Democrats would be acceptable for such "Republicans," and it looks like the answer is all of them.

Spooking the Herd
But Terry McAuliffe is a special kind of liar. Not only does he prevaricate about Glenn Youngkin’s policy positions, but he deliberately spreads falsehoods about the severity of Covid-19 in Virginia. [More]
Perhaps he read Dune and is counting on the political effects of fear being a mind killer...
UPDATE: And if that's not enough, he's got a plan:
McAuliffe tells Hispanic voters to 'get busy, get yourself to 11%' of population.
If any "gun rights leader" tells you this has nothing to do with that "single issue," you're talking to a liar, a fool, or both.

Could They Crow Any Louder?
“Tonight’s results reaffirm Virginia voters’ commitment to gun violence prevention. In 2013, Terry McAuliffe proudly touted his ‘F’ rating from the NRA in his successful first gubernatorial run. By running and winning on a platform of gun violence prevention, he changed the political calculus and empowered campaigns across Virginia to emulate his winning gun violence prevention stance. As a result, Virginians elected a gun violence prevention majority to the General Assembly, and Virginia has now enacted some of the strongest gun safety laws in the country over the past two years. [More]
Gee, I wonder how that happened? Thanks, "gun groups"!
And "domestic terror organization"? Well, no wonder, considering who they invite to speak.
Even if it weren't too late, Youngkin will ignite fires in no bellies.
