It all started after a burglar alarm at the car dealership on East Napoleon. An employee arrived ahead of police and went inside to check the business. He had a flashlight and a gun. When police saw the employee inside they thought he was an armed burglar and fired shots, while the employee thought he was being fired at by a burglar. [More]

Naturally, the chief defends his guy for firing the first shots.

I guess it beats admitting to "Only One" training deficiencies. But it make me wonder how plain clothes officers can react during violent crimes with any degree of confidence that their greatest danger won't be "friendly fire". Then again, noting the marksmanship, perhaps I worry too much.

Ah well--failing to kill him, at least they arrested the poor sap who returned fire...

Alice Doesn't Live Here Any More

Alice Holler, a smoker from the Meyersdale area, said she doesn't have a problem with helping children. But coupled with the state smoking ban, Holler said smokers are being hit too hard. The ban started in September and prohibits smoking in most public places.

“I feel they should start taxing something else instead of cigarettes,” she said while walking along West Main Street in Somerset on Thursday. She suggested levying a tax on alcohol instead.[More]

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents seized 10 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from a southbound pickup truck in Southwestern Arizona on Saturday. On Thursday, CBP officers found rifle barrels, firearm accessories and gun powder in a tractor-trailer attempting to exit the U.S. for Mexico in Pharr, Tex. And on Wednesday, CBP agents in Laredo, Tex., discovered a collection of weapons and ammunition hidden in a second truck destined for Mexico. [More]

According to the Chicago Sun Times, after administering a field sobriety test to Raymond L. Bell, Parker "wrote that Raymond L. Bell lost his balance and used his arms to steady himself." Also, after telling Bell to stand on one foot and count to 30, "Parker marked Bell down for lowering his foot and also for hopping, using his arms for balance and swaying."

But the video shows Bell walking the line without difficulty, and then standing and counting with equal ease. [More]

I woke up this morning to multiple spam comments to recent postings from someone using the screen name "Look."

The characters look Chinese. Here are a few of them:

and checking my Site Meter stats, I did have a visitor from Taiwan who apparently left 9 comments. His IP was not displayed and when I clicked on the domain, it required a password.

The "Look" screen name links to a blogspot site, but the Chinese characters hyperlink to I don't know where--I wasn't going to click on them and risk having my computer attacked by someone obviously placing parasitic code all over my site. And to get past my Captcha code, plus looking at the brief time interval between each comment, this appears to be the work of a human operator, not a spambot.

Anyway, I reported the Look blogspot to Blogger as a spam site, so we'll see what they do with that. In the mean time, be on the lookout for this piece of crap enemy, and do not click on his links. If you already did, make sure you do a virus/spyware scan immediately.

If you have a blogspot blog and have experienced this attack as well, feel free to add to the knowledge base.

And remember--we hold primary responsibility for our own defense in the virtual world, too.

A SUNY New Paltz police lieutenant has outlasted a charge that he threatened another driver with a gun in 2007, angering that driver and some fellow campus cops.

A misdemeanor menacing charge against Lt. Timothy Wurtz was dismissed March 2 in Montgomery Town Court, and the college has reinstated Wurtz. [More]

So what lesson are we to take from this--except to note that if Lt. Wurtz--or by extension, any SUNY New Paltz "Only One", puts a gun to your head in a fit of rage, you can expect no legal recourse...? And the judge and DA won't even talk about it?

It would seem the only way to read this is to assume a clear message has been sent: You're on your own. I guess that means they expect you to take it? Gee, they're sure not leaving people much choice, are they?

HB0254 (Casada) / SB0554 (Norris) has a very limited purpose. Its sole purpose is to omit the requirement that the FFL dealer obtain the thumb prints of purchasers of firearms. TBI backs this bill because out of 2.3 million + sales the TBI has only requested the thumb prints once and in that case it was not useful.

So naturally, Jimmy Naifeh is against dropping the requirement that inconveniences everybody and doesn't work.

Why TN voters don't give this slug the finger...

Franco Avila's stepfather believed the teen when he said he didn't want to be in a gang anymore. But as the 17-year-old left their Albany Park home Tuesday afternoon, his stepfather asked him not to go, or at least be home before curfew.

The Martial Law Mind-Set

Some might object that this crime was committed by a soldier in an occupying army, not by a civilian police officer. That objection has merit, if only to underscore what should be an obvious fact: Our militarized government police force is an army of occupation. [More]

I couldn't pass on an Internet report without first checking with the subject of the rumors it was spreading. It turns out they are unfounded. Remington is not cutting back on ammo production and they are not hoarding it.

The story is important enough to warrant reaching as wide an audience as I can muster, so I posted another Gun Rights Examiner column today.

Barrett REC7 Demonstrates Supply and Demand

"We have backordered the REC7 through the end of our production year of December 2009 and are not taking orders at this time. You may try back in 6 months or so to see if we have started taking more orders then. Thank you for your interest in Barrett Firearms."

I verified this with the Barrett rep before passing it on.

It all depends on how you look at it, whether you consider this good news or bad news. If you can afford one, it's OK to be disappointed. If you can't, rejoice that some of your countrymen understand the nature of what we face and are making wise investments.

I also don't mind seeing Barrett Rifles profit one bit--especially after their top guy showed us all that principles in business matter.
