Notes from the Resistance...
"Just think," a dejected Drebin comments to his anguished partner, "the next time I shoot someone, I could go to jail." [More]William Norman Grigg makes us think about a superior alternative to "Only Ones."

Many of you let me know you had contacted your representatives, and others copied me on correspondence they's sent to Senators Baucus and Tester. Between that and your spreading the word like...like a grassfire, enough attention was given to this to get results. That they happened so quickly is impressive, and ought to prime us for engaging in the next challenge--and the ones after that. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column celebrates a grassroots win. Thanks to everyone who pitched in. That was you, right?

Americans capture several wagons, take eight prisoners and kill four or five in skirmish. [More]
A 23-year-old inmate beaten to death at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary had been put in a cell with convicted killer he had testified against.Oh, by complete accident, I'm sure. Why I'm certain any speculation about "discipline" or retaliation would be completely irresponsible.
...[P]rison officials are trying to determine how it happened. [More]
"We're not out there trying to abuse and harass people -- we're trying to protect the law-abiding citizens locked behind their doors in fear." [More]And what better way to spread that "Only One" protective umbrella than what we see here?
It emerged that Kretschmer had been suffering from depression, even attending a clinic and receiving medication for the condition. [More]Why is that buried in the story to where it would be easy to miss?
It all started after a burglar alarm at the car dealership on East Napoleon. An employee arrived ahead of police and went inside to check the business. He had a flashlight and a gun. When police saw the employee inside they thought he was an armed burglar and fired shots, while the employee thought he was being fired at by a burglar. [More]Naturally, the chief defends his guy for firing the first shots.
District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton for the District of Columbia today issued an order finding in favor of the Tripoli Rocketry Association and National Association of Rocketry vs. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. [More]This is indeed a day of miracles, both courtesy of the miraculous Len Savage.
Traffickers have escalated their arms race, acquiring military-grade weapons, including hand grenades, grenade launchers, armor-piercing munitions and antitank rockets with firepower far beyond the assault rifles and pistols that have dominated their arsenals.But...but...but...what about those damned American gun shows...?
Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. [More]
LA Times even gets it?Oh--he reserves that for people like us. Isn't that obvious?
Where is Eric Holder's condemnation?
A state trooper who killed an unarmed 12-year-old boy in 2002, leading to a $12.5 million state settlement, was one of two police officers involved in a fatal police shooting during a weekend drunken-driving patrol. [More]Shoot you once shame on me, shoot you twice shame on you?

But the other thing I want to point out is a total failure of "mainstream media," the ones going belly up, the ones deriding alternative media, bloggers, activists, et al, to bring this story to the public's attention. This isn't a case of them getting it wrong--this is a case of them not getting it at all. Here's the irony: If we had read about this on any of the establishment outlets that traditionally fail us, most would have accepted it without question. [More]Doubts were raised about the authenticity of my report yesterday. Today's Gun Rights Examiner column puts them to rest, and observes the irony of placing trust in the same media that consistently proves itself unreliable.
But I would have you enquire of the Quarter Master Genl. how he stands provided with Tents, Ammunition Carts or Waggons, Waggons for Intrenching Tools and Hatchets, or Tomahawks. Also of the Comy of Stores how he goes on in his Castings of Cannon. Making Cartridges (of which numbers should be in readiness) and in general, what forwardness the business of the Elaboratory is in, and urge him to the most diligent discharge of the duties thereof. [More]
"My personal opinion is we could tighten up our gun laws," said retired Vice Adm. Roger T. Rufe Jr., director of Homeland Security's Office of Operations Coordination. "We shouldn't be selling assault weapons on the streets." [More]We've been giving a bit of publicity lately to Oath Keepers, so I thought it would only be fair to give a bit of space to their counterparts, and this fascist liar seemed pretty representative.
Police Report Says Priest Wielded Unknown Object; But Cop On Tape Knows It’s A Camera [More]So in other words, in addition to being an "Only One" thug, someone's also an "Only One" liar.
Alice Holler, a smoker from the Meyersdale area, said she doesn't have a problem with helping children. But coupled with the state smoking ban, Holler said smokers are being hit too hard. The ban started in September and prohibits smoking in most public places. At least I wish she--and those like her--didn't live here any more.
“I feel they should start taxing something else instead of cigarettes,” she said while walking along West Main Street in Somerset on Thursday. She suggested levying a tax on alcohol instead.[More]
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents seized 10 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from a southbound pickup truck in Southwestern Arizona on Saturday. On Thursday, CBP officers found rifle barrels, firearm accessories and gun powder in a tractor-trailer attempting to exit the U.S. for Mexico in Pharr, Tex. And on Wednesday, CBP agents in Laredo, Tex., discovered a collection of weapons and ammunition hidden in a second truck destined for Mexico. [More]Is that an "arsenal" due to the quantity of weapons seized, or a "spate" because there were three seizures?
So, why did I abuse the very people I'd been hired to serve? [More]Uh...because no one made an example of you or your fellow "Only One" abusers?
"I am an unyielding proponent of gun control--because of what I saw and experienced as a cop."No doubt.
Making new laws to limit Americans’ right to bear arms will only make the problem of violent crime even worse. [More]We know that. It appears that's beyond some of the idiot comment posters, though.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, after administering a field sobriety test to Raymond L. Bell, Parker "wrote that Raymond L. Bell lost his balance and used his arms to steady himself." Also, after telling Bell to stand on one foot and count to 30, "Parker marked Bell down for lowering his foot and also for hopping, using his arms for balance and swaying."See, when "Only Ones" DUI, well, that's one thing. But when we say you do, even if you didn't, why that's another...
But the video shows Bell walking the line without difficulty, and then standing and counting with equal ease. [More]
The verdict will be delivered Monday in the case of the off-duty Greece Police officer charged with being impaired by alcohol and cocaine, then leaving the scene of an accident that severely injured a pregnant woman and caused her to deliver early. [More]Hey, the sooner we prepare the li'l nipper for his proper relationship to "Only Ones"...and don't you love the way Officer Dad stepped in? Not my precious Sonny Boy--besides, he doesn't remember a thing.
Here it is, folks, and it is bad news. The framework for legislation is always laid, and the Democrats have the votes to pass anything they want to impose upon us. [More]I didn't know Alan Korwin was posting on Infowars. Anyway, he gives us his take on things to come, and they ain't pretty.
Critics like Carter say modern-day Mr. Big operations aggressively entrap targets like Unger with threats and the lure of big money as a mobster. Carter notes such stings are illegal in both Britain and the U.S. because they actively induce someone to join a criminal enterprise they would not otherwise have joined. [More]I'd say our "Only Ones" have figured out enough entrapment workarounds to give the Canadians a run for their money...

"An agency of the Department of Defense has just directed that all military fired brass must be destroyed." [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column fleshes out a backdoor attempt to further restrict ammunition at a time when it is already in high demand and short supply.
We have not more than 40 Horses yet sent in, & neither Saddles nor Bridles have arrived, so that little can be done towards disciplining the Regt at present. We have moreover Lads enough belonging to our different Troops who have had the small pox, to attend the Stables for the present, so that in fact the others can be spared at this Juncture without the least Delay, or Detriment to the Service. [More]

Gangs of South African men are raping lesbians in the belief it will "cure" the women's sexual orientation, an aid agency said Friday. [More]This was sent to me by Mama Liberty, who noted:
And, of course, nobody at NBC would be caught dead suggesting that these women might easily defend themselves from rape and murder if they were suitably armed. Can't have that. It's actually worse than that. In the Bizarro world of globalist feminism, the biggest enabler the rapists have are the women's advocacy groups that purport to represent the victims.
OK, just so you know, the Army says that the fire team shown in the Reuters photo was not there "enforcing" anything, they were just "supporting."[More]Or, in the immortal rejoinder to Jojo Krako:
Who's interferin'?
We're takin' over.
A SUNY New Paltz police lieutenant has outlasted a charge that he threatened another driver with a gun in 2007, angering that driver and some fellow campus cops.A misdemeanor menacing charge against Lt. Timothy Wurtz was dismissed March 2 in Montgomery Town Court, and the college has reinstated Wurtz. [More]
So what lesson are we to take from this--except to note that if Lt. Wurtz--or by extension, any SUNY New Paltz "Only One", puts a gun to your head in a fit of rage, you can expect no legal recourse...? And the judge and DA won't even talk about it?
It would seem the only way to read this is to assume a clear message has been sent: You're on your own. I guess that means they expect you to take it? Gee, they're sure not leaving people much choice, are they?

HB0254 (Casada) / SB0554 (Norris) has a very limited purpose. Its sole purpose is to omit the requirement that the FFL dealer obtain the thumb prints of purchasers of firearms. TBI backs this bill because out of 2.3 million + sales the TBI has only requested the thumb prints once and in that case it was not useful.
Bryan Crawford, 26, was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly intoxication. His brother, Danny Crawford, 28, was arrested for resisting arrest with violence and disorderly intoxication...[More]And one grabbed a girl's crotch--the same one who "paid his dues" after running his car into a utility pole while drunk, and then stealing from the public by calling in sick and then going clubbing (no, not that kind)!
A woman filed a notice of claim last week against the village and police Officer Shawn Barry, claiming he fractured her arm while trying to issue a routine traffic ticket.[More]I see "Only One" Shawn has settled on a brutality claim before. Perhaps she's lucky he didn't really crack her up.

Still, there's a bigger problem with the voting rights bill in its entirety, and one many gun rights advocates--or our representative grooups-- seem unwilling to discuss. [More]

Two Surprise police detectives and an officer were fired last month after they failed to cooperate with a Police Department investigation of their apparent misconduct... [More]Cooperating with police surprises "Only Ones"?
All the time cops and robbers profit while the people lose. [More]Yeah, that's pretty much it.
An Idaho gun shop that went to federal court to keep the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from pulling its gun license has reached a settlement with the agency. [More]And here's a more detailed story with the happy bottom line:
"It's over now, so Red's can keep working for another 100 years or more."Naturally, Ryan Horsley won't be able to say much more than this. But here's the thing: His reacting as he did was absolutely the right thing to do. He made noise, he got attention and ultimately, he survived. Had he not, his family business would have been quietly murdered in the dark.
Franco Avila's stepfather believed the teen when he said he didn't want to be in a gang anymore. But as the 17-year-old left their Albany Park home Tuesday afternoon, his stepfather asked him not to go, or at least be home before curfew.Ah, see, feral sons Uday and Qusay are in twelfth and ninth grades respectively. There's no quitting a gang option for either of them, because I, well, you know...I parent them. And set boundaries. Pretty simple, really. My house, my food, my rules. Deserve trust and you'll get it. Don't, and woe unto you. I know your friends and I know where you are. Speaking of which, where are you on your homework? And clean that room.
Later that night, Avila, a 10th-grader at Roosevelt High School, was shot to death just blocks from his home. [More]
Some might object that this crime was committed by a soldier in an occupying army, not by a civilian police officer. That objection has merit, if only to underscore what should be an obvious fact: Our militarized government police force is an army of occupation. [More]I've had a chance to revisit over recent days The pH Factor.

[I]t is clear that an evil, abnormal freak's actions are being manipulated to make the rest of us even more vulnerable to such monsters.Today's Gun Rights Examiner column follows up on the Alabama shooting spree, looks in on the Brady blood dance, highlights an interesting fact about the killer, and wonders just what the hell the Army is doing in Samson. Many Internet-active gun owners have no doubt seen the Rense.com report "Contrived US Ammunition Shortage."I couldn't pass on an Internet report without first checking with the subject of the rumors it was spreading. It turns out they are unfounded. Remington is not cutting back on ammo production and they are not hoarding it.
...I just got off the phone with [Remington CEO Tommy Millner] and I'll share with you the Cliffs Notes version of our conversation...[More]
I verified this with the Barrett rep before passing it on.Response to my inquiry regarding availability:
"We have backordered the REC7 through the end of our production year of December 2009 and are not taking orders at this time. You may try back in 6 months or so to see if we have started taking more orders then. Thank you for your interest in Barrett Firearms."
He was booked for obstructing justice and resisting arrest in an altercation with Spokane Police last month, but now prosecutors say Spokane County Sheriff's Sergeant Pete Bunch won't face any criminal charges. [More]Really?
Gun Owners of America does not sound the "Emergency alarm" often -- and when we do, we mean it.Go. Read. Act.
Remember the massive land bill, S. 22, that passed out of the Senate last month?
It was expected to pass quickly in the House, but your opposition to an expansion of gun control contained in the bill forced it to be pulled from the floor.
GOA has just learned that after some backroom deals, the bill is headed to the floor WEDNESDAY MORNING, without any amendments to truly protect your Second Amendment rights on National Park Service (NPS) land. [More]

Gun owners are right to wonder if this is the event that will be the catalyst for making a new 'assault weapon' ban a priority. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column asks if this will be the triggering event.
Supposing there was a real necessity of your retreating from New Rochelle, you certainly ought to have returned immediately upon the Enemy's dropping their design, if they ever had any, of attacking you; All accounts from your Quarters complain loudly of this retreat, as a most injudicious Step, as it gave fresh Spirits to the disaffected and retarded the removal of Forage by the Convention of New York, the very end that your Troops were principally intended to answer. A federal judge delivered a blistering rebuke to police superintendant [sic] Jody Weis this morning, for defying a court order to turn over lists of officers with multiple allegations of excessive force.I'm sure this has nothing to do with his wanting these guys to be the "Only Ones" armed...
On Friday, after he was cited for contempt, Weis reluctantly tendered the lists. But he was ordered to appear in court today to explain his actions. [More]

This was a setback--not only for anti-gun mayor Mike Bloomberg and his coalition of anti-self defense mayors, but also for the left-leaning activist judge Jack B. On March 10, 1777, the New Jersey Assembly met at the Indian King Tavern and approved the adoption of the Great Seal of New Jersey. Six months later, the Assembly met again at the tavern and enacted a law substituting the word "state" for "colony" in all commissions, writs and indictments. [More]

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) does not have the fall-back option of running as an independent should he lose his 2010 primary election, giving the senior lawmaker strong incentive to abandon his party this year.Because it always makes smart political sense to give an "A" rating and endorse the guy who allowed the "assault weapons" ban to pass by taking a powder, and who voted against allowing airline pilots to arm...
Specter faces an extremely difficult primary race against former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), the conservative firebrand who lost his bid to oust Specter from his seat in the 2004 GOP primary by a mere 17,000 votes (out of more than a million cast). [More]
