Tonight, AMC premieres their "The Prisoner" remake miniseries.

I've been looking forward to this for some time, and even bringing up my appreciation of the original series from time to time...

I'm hoping they don't mess it up. I'm happy to see they've included "Rover," and hope there are more nods to the original.

But then, as I've disclosed before, I'm an ornery originalist on just about everything:

I'm still livid with "Gunsmoke" for replacing Chester with Festus. Candy was an interloper who should have been driven off the Ponderosa--or better yet, hanged for Adam's disappearance. Who the hell are Ernie and Uncle Charlie, how did they get into the Douglas house on "My Three Sons," and what the hell did they do with Mike and Bub (I'm suspecting pod people here)? And "Zorro"--dude, you dress in black to evade pursuit on dark nights. What bad mescal could you have possibly been drinking to think replacing black Tornado with white Phantom was a tactically sound idea?

As for tonight? I guess I'll see.

And as for charges that "he was being given privileges other defendants might not receive," well, hey, if being an "Only One" in New Jersey doesn't count for something, what good is it?

Comply with Our Health Care Rules or We'll Kill You

Congress has rightly set out to both expand insurance coverage and reduce health-care costs for all Americans. But without an effective and enforceable individual mandate that guarantees the participation of everyone, neither goal is attainable. [More]

I don't see anything in there about where the feds get their Constitutional authority to do this--it's certainly not a delegated enumerated power, and the Founders would roll over in their graves and ask us why we haven't horsewhipped any "official" who would dare to suggest the Commerce Clause gives them that power.

This naked usurpation and presumption of new and unprecedented powers into the central government is a lot more unhealthy for citizens than any supposed "reforms," especially when you consider the cost of insurance is a direct result of innumerable government restrictions, and there really is no "free market" with innovative competition.

On top of that, feeling sorry for the "less fortunate" notwithstanding, in so many cases it is really those of us who have made responsible choices and sacrifices paying for those who have not been responsible and made choices to satisfy their impulse of the moment. All enabled by "social policy," which is paid for by the private sector through forced "wealth redistribution."

I would love to find people willing to enter into a contract with me where I had the power to unilaterally change the terms and conditions in my favor. That, in essence, is what happens whenever we allow government to give itself new powers that are outside the scope of what they have lawfully been delegated. That's what's happening here.

To paraphrase Daniel Webster and John Marshall, the power to tax is the power to destroy. Arguing that "fines" are too low presupposes there are not people who don't recognize that truth. Some do, and they are willing to defy. And then the retaliatory measures ratchet up. And resolve either breaks or fortifies the commitment to resistance. Push people who have had it far enough, and all kinds of unintended "health care" consequences could result...

Economic fascism beneficiary-and-thus-cheerleader Janet Trautwein would just be astonished. As will everyone who thinks debates forever remain academic, and that history is not continually being established, and/or something that only happen to other people.

Actually, Mike, it's the people who hate guns who introduce force into the equation. They don't want you to have a say in the matter, and they're willing to set state enforcers on you to make it so.

As for DA Kochems saying “This owner going out and buying a gun is not helping his employees one whit,” maybe we should apply the same assertion to Mercer County employees--particularly the ones with guns who will be nowhere around just in case any store robber doesn't realize he's only supposed to ply his trade after hours. Which would make him more of a burglar than a robber...

So in other words, these stupid gun "buybacks" actually endanger the public rather than make us safer? Of course, the same holds true for expecting people who have not had firearms training to pick up, transport and deliver guns safely. Encouraging that--without question--is tremendously dangerous and irresponsible. This, to me, is an argument we need to use more to monkeywrench these un-American little gatherings.

I also can't help but wonder how many guns were transported in an illegal manner, and whether the "no questions asked" pledge would apply if they got pulled over and had their cars searched while en route to the turn-in?

And how can local police commit that federal law won't be enforced?

The guy did not do badly--I know some will argue over "weapons under disability" (I argue against that all the time myself), but it's amazing to me he came up with so much I agree with him on--and then factor in the RINO subversive running against him.

I'm also amazed at how many politicians running for significant offices are responding to this questionnaire. I've been doing it for years from this blog--I guess being able to run it on Examiner.com has made a difference.

More Gun Rights Questions for Ohio AG Cordray

How hard could it be for the state's top law enforcement officer, the AG, to write a memorandum recognizing the legality of peaceable open carrying, and send it to every police and sheriff's department in the state, as well as to the Highway Patrol? One would assume flow-down communications explaining his interpretations and positions on law enforcement issues are already established and routine.

And how hard would it be for the individual LE departments to transmit this information to their sworn personnel? Again, one would assume they all receive policy training as a condition of employment. If you're already having them sign acknowledgments such as they understand sexual harassment rules, etc., and placing that in their personnel files, how much more effort would be required to have each officer sign and date a simple acknowledgment that he or she understands open carry is lawful?
