"We've Come to Expect"

We’ve come to expect many things from Michael Moore, the deliriously anti-gun millionaire posing as populist who brought us such absurd and irresponsible works as “Bowling for Columbine,” “Stupid White Men,” “Dude, Where’s My Country?” and “Fahrenheit 9/11.” We’ve come to expect patronizing arrogance, blatant anti-Americanism, and flagrant lies.

One thing I haven't come to expect is for NRA to follow its own Bylaws any more than I expect politicians to abide by the Constitution. Four years ago, I gave them ample evidence along with a demand to expel Moore from the Association, following the bylaws to the letter, notarized and sent via certified mail.

At that point, the Secretary was to refer my complaint to the Ethics Committee, which would arrive at a disposition. The Secretary was then to "promptly notify all parties of the findings and actions."


Note the wording doesn't make this optional. It doesn't say the Secretary can just ignore it because NRA management doesn't want to do it. "Shall," as in "shall not be infringed," is a specific mandate that could not be more clear.

So why is it I never heard a thing back from NRA about this, and why have I come to expect that I never will?

As parliament considers an amendment to tighten gun control laws, the head of Cape Town's Red Cross Children's Hospital, Sebastian van As, has called for the gun-licensing age to be increased to 25 years to reduce the alarming number of children killed or maimed by gunfire.

When was the last time you heard a major Hollywood star speak about guns and kids like this for the record? Yet this was a monthly feature 50 years ago, with actors and politicians endearing themselves to their fans and constituents as they disclosed their affinity for guns and the shooting sports.

It's too bad the people from that era weren't also in touch with the deeper implications of gun ownership, but it was a different time and no one was prescient. Pity. We can only wonder if things would be different had some back then sounded an alarm, but in truth, without the attacks of our time, such voices would (and did) not carry far.

This Day in History: June 2

On this day in 1774, the British Parliament renews the Quartering Act, allowing Redcoats to stay in private American homes if necessary. The Quartering Act, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act and the Boston Port Act, were known as the Coercive Acts.

Beyond Insanity

When it came time for city leaders to take the microphone, their solution was less than reassuring: a gun buyback program by which, in theory, people will be handing over guns responsible for the wave of shootings.

In the insane world of the Boston Globe, guns are responsible for shootings, not people.

The new tack of the antis is to admit the "buybacks" don't work (duh), but to justify them anyway by lauding how they galvanize the Eloi to work together with the Morlocks in a Kumbaya partnership.

A U.S. air marshal removed himself from a Southwest Airlines flight set to depart Midway Airport on Thursday after he accidentally dropped a clip of bullets on the floor of the plane, revealing his undercover role to fellow passengers, airline officials said.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker last week refused to overturn a federal government-imposed closing date for Trader Sports Inc., which was found to have repeatedly violated federal gun-sales laws. He gave CEO Anthony Cucchiara until Friday to either surrender his sales license or seek a stay with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal.

The Ninth Circuit? Oh, the ones who say there is no individual right to keep and bear arms. Gee, thanks, Judge.

I don't suppose you'd consider just throwing Cucchiara in dat briar patch?

And Best of All, WE Come to YOU

The British Columbia government has launched a month-long campaign to get gun owners to turn in any unwanted weapons without fear of prosecution...

Solicitor General John Les cautions gun owners not to take their weapons to their local police station.

"No, absolutely not. If you show up at the police station with a gun, probably some unpleasant things will happen."

He said people who want to turn in guns should call police, who will come and pick them up.

"Unpleasant things"?

Well, yeah, after all, the police are the only ones who should be armed in public without provoking a violent response.

So much for the "new" government.

This Day in History: June 1

On this day in 1779, the court-martial of Benedict Arnold convenes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a relatively clean record in the early days of the American Revolution, Arnold was charged with malfeasance, misusing government wagons, the illegal buying and selling of goods and favoritism toward British Loyalists. Although his notorious betrayal was still many months away, Arnold's resentment over this order and perceived mistreatment by the American Army would fuel his traitorous decision to assist the British.

A Martin County deputy who was fired after using his squad car camera to tape women now wants his job back.

The sheriff's office fired deputy Jack Munsey in January after an investigation found that Munsey broke the rules by using the camera for unofficial purposes, spending on-duty time on off-duty activities and for improper conduct.

An investigation revealed that Munsey used his dashboard-mounted video camera to zoom in on and record bikini-clad girls, including one showering at a public beach.

Go get 'em, Jack. If these guys deserve a place at the public trough, there's no reason why you're not good enough to elbow your way in and join 'em.

This certainly makes me a lot more receptive to the idea of "security" cameras mounted in public areas...

Rochester police and members of the clergy will be working out the final details this week to launch a citywide gun turn-in program at five churches on Saturday...

"Most of our killings are caused by guns, and we're saying enough is enough"...

[Rev. Deloris] Simpson said many parents and grandparents know youths in their homes are carrying guns...

"In order for this to work, we have to have buy-in from the community," [District Attorney Mike] Green said. "If we only get one gun off the street Saturday, it'll be a successful day because that's a gun that might have been used in a homicide."

My first thought: I wonder if Deloris is related to Homer.

Overlooked is the very real fact that the homicides are "caused" by killers, that is, the juvenile parasites the parents/grandparents enable.

But blame the guns and make a show of getting them "off the street," while leaving the killers there. Then elect political bosses who will pledge more "gun control," ensuring a steady supply of goats for the jackals--and move all the pieces another step closer to total dependence on the state, that is, to a state of being totally controlled, that is, to a state of totalitarianism.

It might seem DA Green has a pretty bizarre notion of what constitutes "a successful day," but it has been for him. He's got the serfs thinking they owe him one, plus he got ink from his adoring lapdogs at the Democrat and Chronicle.

That can't hurt his political ambitions one bit. And so what if he's got to crush a little freedom along the way? It's not like the cattle he's in charge of herding and culling do anything to secure their own liberty.

An elderly Sydney couple are recovering after being brutally clubbed with a gun butt for the sake of a few dollars...The 76-year-old woman and her 82-year-old husband were punched and battered with the gun at their boarding house...the attacker burst in and marched him inside to find his wife...He then punched the woman in the head, knocking her down, before striking her, then her husband, with the butt of a sawn-off shotgun and running off...with the woman's handbag, containing a small amount of cash.

Well the Australian government was certainly nowhere to be seen when the attack occurred, and what chance does an elderly couple have against such an assailant?

Perhaps we should ask Prime Minister John Howard what he thinks of weaker people having the means to defend themselves against stronger predators:

[W]e will find any means we can to further restrict them because I hate guns. I don’t think people should have guns unless they’re police or in the military or in the security industry. There is no earthly reason for people to have...ordinary citizens should not have weapons. We do not want the American disease imported into Australia.

How are those taxpayer-funded armed bodyguards working out for you, Prime Minister? Thank goodness being an official makes you and your agents immune to gun disease!

The Ratings Game

More anti-defense cheerleading from Mr. Disarmament himself, Michael Daly. It's not his rant that interests me, as he is always so boringly predictable in his recitation of the Brady playbook. What caught my attention was this:

[New Jersey Rep. Joe] Saxton is generally an opponent of gun control, though he has only a B-plus rating from the NRA.

I can't trust anything Daly writes to be accurate, but just in case he's right on this one, it does bring up a question I've asked before:

This is a special Memorial Day for me.

I lost a dear uncle a week ago.

Like many heroes, you would have never assumed he was one from his demeanor--a more gentle, quiet, kind and unassuming soul you could not have met.

Here is just a glimpse of his character and strength from his Navy Cross citation:

The Navy Cross is presented to George Codrea, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps (Reserve), for extraordinary heroism and courage as Platoon Commander in the Second Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands, August 21, 1942. When it became necessary to reinforce the firing line during the heaviest fighting against a Japanese landing force of about 700 men, Second Lieutenant Codrea, coolly and with complete disregard for his own safety, placed each man, individually, in a position to deliver the most effective fire. Though wounded twice during the battle, he remained on duty with his platoon until ordered to retire to the aid stations. His outstanding leadership, determination and inspiring fortitude throughout the engagement were largely instrumental in stopping the most serious enemy threat.

We're the Only Ones Telling You to Keep Your Shirt on Enough

There are still no answers into the death of Ian Bush, the Houston B.C. 22-year-old shot in the head while in police custody after having an open beer at a hockey game in October.

But B.C. Attorney General Wally Oppal said it's better to have a thorough investigation than a quick one into the Oct. 29 shooting inside the Houston RCMP detachment.

Seven months is "quick"?

I'm certain the "authorities" would be urging patience were the situation reversed.

Canadians can at least thank God that one open-container-at-hockey-games scofflaw will no longer menace society, and that Const. Paul Koester is still out there on the job protecting the public.

Why Disarming You and Me Makes Sense

LOS ANGELES HAS MORE CRIMINALS than it can afford. So county officials are forced to release too many jail inmates too early, putting thousands of convicted criminals on the street — with predictably tragic consequences not only for their victims but for public trust in government...

The Times reported last week that seven men have committed murders when they should have been serving out their sentences for other crimes. Nine more are awaiting trial for homicide. Of the nearly 16,000 other criminals rearrested while their earlier sentences were still in force, 518 were charged with robbery, 641 with weapons violations and 1,443 with assault.

The answer, of course, is to give up those nasty, dangerous guns and rely on the government to protect us. No?

It still sometimes amazes me that this is even a debate.

That Mexican Gun Control Sure Is Working

Assailants firing assault rifles killed a Nuevo Laredo police officer and wounded his partner, the 11th law enforcement official to be gunned down this year in this violent border city...The death of the officer brings to 116 the number of people slain this year in Nuevo Laredo, a city of 300,000 across the Rio Grande from Laredo.

The city is in the midst of a turf battle between drug cartels battling for billion-dollar drug routes into the United States.

And the fools/outright traitors in the administration and senate think their dangerous, stupid and treasonous amnesty bill will have any effect on violent men--with billions of incentives--like these?

All it will guarantee is even more violent inner cities, more "law enforcement" and more domestic corruptiion.

Oh, and then calls for more "gun control"--you know, the kind of laws they have in, say, Mexico...

BATFU Investigating Bloomberg

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is examining the results of an unusual sting set up by the City of New York, in which private investigators recorded themselves purchasing handguns at shops in several states...

In a twist, ATF's inquiry will also include a review of whether the city acted legally in setting up the sting.

Several gun-rights advocates have questioned whether the city itself broke firearms rules or committed fraud by attempting to simulate straw sales in other states...

Well it's about damned time the "authorized journalists" began noticing this aspect of the story.

This Day in History: May 27

On this day in 1813, former President Thomas Jefferson writes former President John Adams to let him know that their mutual friend, Dr. Benjamin Rush, has died.

Rush’s passing caused Jefferson to meditate upon the departure of the Revolutionary generation. He wrote, “We too must go; and that ere long. I believe we are under half a dozen at present; I mean the signers of the Declaration.”

We're the Only Ones...I Don't Know What the Hell We Are, But It Certainly Seems Pretty Damned Twisted...

One State Police trooper was suspended for six months last year for allowing an unlicensed worker to sell firearms at a gun shop that the trooper was responsible for inspecting and where he purchased numerous weapons for himself. Another resigned after pleading guilty to internal charges for inviting two boys to his home and showing them pornography.

Three others were suspended for 120 days for causing motor vehicle accidents while off-duty because they were under the influence. A fourth got docked 20 days for being drunk behind the wheel of a state-issued car while he was out of uniform...

The infractions included using excessive force during an arrest, lying to protect an off-duty trooper under investigation, mishandling and destroying evidence, falsifying official reports and disobeying orders.

The important thing to remember is, we're the only ones...

And don't you forget it.

Bloomberg's 1st Punch a Girly Slap

Police acting on information gathered by private investigators working on the city's civil lawsuits against the gun industry have filed the first criminal charges related to the case.

Yeah, against dealers in New York, for misdemeanor charges. Nothing indicates "prohibited persons" were sold anything. So much for the "problem" coming from out of state.

With all the hype, you'd think we'd see something more than this. Meanwhile, the lapdog press hasn't even touched on the possibility that Bloomberg and his investigators are the true criminals...

Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg thrust himself into the national immigration debate Wednesday, advocating a plan that would establish a DNA or fingerprint database to track and verify all legal U.S. workers...

"You don't have to work _ but if you want to work for a company you have to have a Social Security card," he said.

It's about "People Control." It always has been.

Doesn't "You don't have to work" coming from a billionaire smack of "Let them eat cake"?

This tyrant has secured his place in my list of "The Ten Most Despicable People in America."

Perhaps we should all send Mike one of those fingerprints he so craves, and ask him to guess which finger it came from. I'd suggest also sending him a DNA sample, but that might get me in trouble...

GFZs - public places where firearms are unwelcome - have been endorsed by Gun-Free South Africa (GFSA), a gun-control lobby group established in 1994 as a response to decades of armed violence.

Unintended Consequences of Proposed LA Law

Yesterday, I posted about a proposed Los Angeles law that would require gun owners to report stolen firearms under threat of punishment.

If I thought their true agenda was public safety, I'd be surprised that the most obvious unintedned consequence of this measure has been missed: It will not affect the class of people who commit "gun violence," since most criminals do not legally "own" their guns. They would actually be immune to complying for another obvious reason: If they reported a stolen gun they were not legally eligible to possess, they would be in a position where local law requires them to incriminate themselves, that is, the City is presuming authority to override Constitutional Fifth Amendment protection.

On the plus side, I suppose anyone defying California's evil militia weapon ban could also claim similar immunity were their unregistered firearms stolen...

LA: HB 89 Passes Senate

The Louisiana Senate passed House Bill No. 89 with 36 yeas and no nays (three senators were absent).

On Monday, the House approved the bill 98 to 0.

Under HB89, the courts would be required to assume the use of deadly force was reasonable if the victim illegally broke into someone’s home, vehicle or business. The person shooting an intruder also would no longer have to show an attempt to retreat under the legislation.

If Bloomberg Can Break the Law, Why Can't We?

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined with gun control advocates Monday to call for a city law requiring gun owners to report lost or stolen weapons.

California law gives the state preemption, meaning cities can't legally enact their own more restrictive measures.

That never stops them, of course, as evidenced by the San Francisco handgun ban.

And our lawless anti-gun courts and lawless anti-gun attorney general will probably let them get away with it.

It seems everyone is entitled to break laws not to their liking except us citizens.

Hardy: BATFU Investigating Bloomberg "Sting Sales"

ATF has said they will be investigating every aspect of these "sting" sales (and there were ATF people present who repeated that). This may be bad news for the city, since IF the sales were illegal straw sales, their investigators committed felonies.

One gun was traced TWICE in NYC. The first time was for a crime, so it would have to have been confiscated. Only explanation for how it would later be on the street is that someone in NYC PD is selling seized guns on the street.

This is an interesting development, particularly the bit on how a gun apparently wandered away from the Only Ones' custody...Wonder if BATFU really has the guts and the administration backing to take on a billionaire Republican, though, and my gut says "no."

Prove me wrong--please.

It's not that I want to promote enforcement of existing laws. My goal in staying with this subject is primarily to expose hypocrisy and lawbreaking among those who think they're higher and better than sovereign citizens. That said, if Mikey or his minions take a fall on this, you'll see no tears shed here.

As a resident and law-abiding gun owner of Georgia, I am outraged at the recent illegal straw gun purchases made by an “investigative team” assembled at the behest of Mayor Bloomberg of New York City.

Mayor Bloomberg continuously attacks the civil liberties of law-abiding gun owners in this country and has taken it upon himself to destroy these liberties by targeting gun stores throughout the country, including some stores in Georgia such as Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna. In order to gain publicity for his anti-gun campaign he knowingly conspired and planned illegal straw purchases at these gun stores and violated federal law as well as possible Georgia state laws. His attempts to entrap gun store owners and produce evidence of illegal gun sale procedures at these Georgia gun stores are despicable.

I ask: What is the authority of private individuals from New York to conspire to break, and then actually violate, federal gun purchase laws and the laws of other states?

Mayor Bloomberg’s out-of-touch viewpoints are a threat to all law-abiding gun owners in Georgia as well as law-abiding legitimate businesses in Georgia.

I urge you to launch an investigation into these illicit tactics that were performed to support Bloomberg’s frivolous lawsuits against these legitimate and law-abiding Georgia businesses.

Bloomberg Fraud Continues to Unravel

Farmer said improper sales, such as the ones that the undercover agents pulled off, happen frequently. If the buyer can produce valid identification, passes a background check and takes legal responsibility for the gun, the sale will go through, he said.

"It's the same scenario repeated many, many, many times," Farmer said. "Husbands buy guns for their wives, boyfriends buy for their girlfriends, fathers buy for their daughters."

This is pretty much what I expected to find: No crimes are being committed by the gun dealer's targeted in Bloomberg's "sting"--only routine procedures followed when one person gives another the gift of a gun.

Here's another account from a pawn shop in South Carolina:

The woman filled out papers registering the sale and signed a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives declaration saying she was the buyer and buying for someone else, he said.

Men routinely advise women on what guns to buy, Mickalis said, adding "I think they were specifically sent here to create a lawsuit."

It appears these dealers were following the book to conduct a legal sale in both instances. It wouldn't surprise me to find this chain of events repeat itself in all 15 of the instances Bloomberg would have us believe resulted in "illegal gun sales," where dealers knew the purchasers "would turn the weapons over to criminals."

Is someone intentionally lying here?

If any lawbreaking has occurred, it appears to have been within the Bloomberg "sting team" camp.

Was the federal gun purchase form falsified?

Were the "agents," that is, private investigators, that is, private citizens with no special privileges and immunities, residents of the states in which they made their purchases? If not, is this a violation of GCA '68, which prohibits, among other things, unlicensed individuals from acquiring handguns outside their state of residence?

Surprise, Surprise...

A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer.

At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.

I have a hard time believing a Louisiana politician would ever involve himself in anything not on the up and up.

Instead, the headline-hunting Bloomberg launched a civil lawsuit in what should be, if he is to be believed, a criminal action.

There's a reason for that. The private investigators New York hired to conduct this sting must have made deliberately false statements on federal firearms purchase forms. That's a felony. They should be prosecuted. If Bloomberg sent them to do this, he's an accessory, if not a conspirator.

Church Shooter Finds Defenseless Prey the Easiest Kind

Police on Sunday captured the man who allegedly opened fire and killed four people during services at a Louisiana church and later fatally shot his wife after abducting her and their infant, officials said.

There are some who say guns have no place in churches.

They're the same ones who would be absolutely useless in a situation requiring self defense, but who are nonetheless gearing up for their latest blood dance.

This isn't the first time we've seen church members helpless because they were disarmed and their attacker was not. I'm reminded of Woody Allen's line:

"The lion and the lamb shall lie down together, but the lamb won't get much sleep."

I'm also reminded of a 1747 Philadelphia sermon:

"He that suffers his life to be taken from him by one who has no authority for that purpose, when he might preserve it by defense, incurs the Guilt of self murder since God has enjoined him to seek the continuance of his life, and Nature itself teaches every creature to defend [it]self."

Did Bloomberg's Boobs Screw Up Investigations While Violating Law?

Mayor Bloomberg's decision to hire private investigators to conduct undercover stings at Southern gun shops has potentially jeopardized several criminal cases, law enforcement sources charged.

That's pathetically funny. Still, it misses a key point I have been harping on, but don't expect to see "authorized journalists" even hint at, let alone investigate: If Bloomberg's team broke the law in their publicity stunt, they committed multiple criminal acts for which "ordinary citizens" WOULD HAVE THEIR LIVES DESTROYED if they were caught in just one infraction. If they knowingly did this, it is a criminal conspiracy, with Mikey being the criminal mastermind.

The papers are quick to raise the shrill term "illegal gun purchases," but were they? Were the purchases conducted where it is legal to buy a gun for a relative, in which case this is all just a cheap publicity stunt aimed at ginning up public hysteria, or did someone on the "sting" team actually lie on a federal form? As Project Safe Neighborhoods reminds us:

If you buy a gun for someone else and lie on the federal form about who the gun is for, you have committed a federal crime.

Another New York Daily News "story" tells us:

The city hired the James Mintz Group, a private investigation firm, to conduct sting operations in gun stores in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

And who makes up the James Mintz Group?

[M]ore than twenty-five experienced investigators, including former investigative reporters, federal investigators and prosecutors.

It's not a stretch to conclude they're people who should know better than to break the law.

Jim Mintz himself certainly does. Hell, he can even flowchart the process (if there's ink in it for him). So if he's overseeing the commission of federal "gun felonies", he's doing so with special contempt for the law.

Back to the Daily News:

"Our opponents never tire of telling us that we ought to be going after the people who break the law with guns," Bloomberg said yesterday at City Hall, flanked by Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and city Corporation Counsel Michael Cardozo. "Well, okay, you ask for something, you got it."

That's what I'm asking for, Mike. Not that I think anyone of the ruling elites or their enforcers will give it to me.

Here's something else I'm asking for: Right now, these questions are relegated to this obscure blog. If you think it's important for gun owners to get honest answers, join me in demanding them.

If you have your own site, investigate it yourself and blog about it. If not, write to "establishment" news outlets and ask them why they're not looking into this. It will only take you a few moments. If you don't, this will be swept under the rug, and Bloomberg and Co. will continue their relentless, freedom-hating assault against ourselves and our posterity.

And again I ask: What is the authority of private individuals from New York to conspire to break, and then actually violate, federal gun purchase laws and the laws of other states?

Where is the investigation? Where are the indictments? Or are only private individuals in Bloomberg's conspiracy shielded from prosecution, whereas "ordinary" private individuals would have their lives destroyed if caught making "illegal gun purchases"?

Belgians to License Rights

MPs in the Belgian Parliament voted almost unanimously in favour on Thursday night of new tighter gun control laws...

The law will change existing regulations in which any adult with identification can buy a gun over the counter without a permit.

But in future, anyone who wants to buy a weapon will be subject to police screening and will need to obtain a gun licence first.

Passage of the legislation through parliament was accelerated after a double murder in Antwerp last week...

An Allentown police officer has been suspended with pay after he shot another police officer in the arm with a pellet gun inside the police station Saturday, according to a statement released Wednesday by police Chief Roger MacLean...

Police withheld the names of the officers involved pending the outcome of an internal investigation and would not release the incident report...

Suspended with pay, name and report kept confidential...Yeah, you and me could expect the same treatment if we shot a cop with a pellet gun.

Alligator Problem? Call Tom Lyons

I mean, heck, the gator was barely 3 feet long, if that.

Though Frey is disabled and uses a cane to get around, she wouldn't expect to lose a fight to the death with a gator that small.

All it needs to do is sever an artery and she could have bled to death, Tom. Why on earth would a human choose to "fight to the death" with an animal, when we have tools that can give us instant mastery of the situation?

And you know what, Tom? Golden retrievers aren't small dogs. They instinctively know how to hunt, and this one was reluctant to attack. What did a dog know that you apparently don't, sitting in witless, smug judgment in your cubicle?

As for calling instead of defending herself, three women have been killed by alligators in the past week, and the hotline is "swamped." But you're one of those "Dial 911" types, aren't you, Tom? So I'm sure you won't mind pointing out to your readers the Florida law that makes state wildlife officers liable if they fail to protect a citizen's life?

What, you can't? They have no legal duty to do this, with consequences should they fail?

Canadians OK With Scrapping Gun Registry?

Many adults in Canada think the federal government should do away with a highly controversial program, according to a poll by Ipsos-Reid released by CanWest Global. 54 per cent of respondents say the gun registry is badly organized, is not working properly, and should be scrapped.

Now hold the phone just a damned minute here. I posted on this a few days ago, and the results being touted by the National Post quoted the Ispos-Reid VP stating:

The concept of a gun registry has taken root across the country. There's a majority, 67 per cent, that's not a small majority, who believe that Stephen Harper shouldn't be doing away with all gun registries.

I think the most salient observation on this came from Jay in the "Comments" section, who noted:

If memory serves, a majority of Canadians said "screw you" at the ballot box to ex-Prime Minister Paul Martin and the Liberal Party. To me, that is a much more convincing opinion poll.

On this day in 1783, the first United Empire Loyalists, known to American Patriots as Tories, arrive in Canada to take refuge under the British crown in Parrtown, Saint John, Nova Scotia (now New Brunswick), Canada. The town was located on the Bay of Fundy just north of the border with what is now the state of Maine.

Gun Not Good Enough for "Only Ones"

When a bullet exploded through her living room's bay window less than 10 feet from her, the initial response of a startled Elise Nakhnihian was to find the projectile.

Her husband, Steven Gittelson, had another idea: Stay out of sight and call the cops...

The couple couldn't have imagined that it was a Princeton Borough police officer's bullet that rocketed into their stately Governors Lane condominium...The shooting was the result of an allegedly malfunctioning rifle that discharged the bullet at the police firearms training range on River Road in the township without the officer who was holding the weapon even pulling the trigger, borough and township police said yesterday.
