One other thing about this story I found almost as disturbing as the allegation--that his partner didn't immediately arrest him.

A district court judge has upheld a decision to revoke Ashland Police Officer Ed Pomponio's license to carry a gun. [More]

Pomponio joined the Ashland Police force last year, and is still permitted to carry a gun while on duty there.

Interesting classification of "Only One." If I understand this right, he's not considered trustworthy enough to carry a gun unless he's in a position of authority over you and me, and then he automatically gets his judgment back.

When a stray bullet from a gang member's gun struck 3-week-old Luis Angel Garcia in the heart and killed him in 2007, police, politicians and ordinary Angelenos expressed outrage over the infant's death.

Actually, if you look at who is carrying guns in LA, it really pretty much is limited to "Only Ones" on both sides of "the law": Police and gangbangers.

The only ones who aren't carrying are those inclined to obedience.

GAO Report Blames U.S. Gun Laws for Mexican Crime

See, the problem is, criminals laugh at all the laws against illegal purchases and international arms trafficking that we have now--those are for the suckers who obey them. But if we can just enact a few more prohibitions that will affect the "law-abiding," why everything will fall into place!

And we can confidently make these recommendations while admitting that the data we're using to extrapolate a conclusion is nowhere near complete. Regulars here know I never ask for money for myself. So take that for what it's worth.

I have an affection for the site, having worked on many projects hosted there during Angel's tenure. I'd hate to see it become another profile in apathy.

The Ambulance yielded as soon as it could, another vehicle was in its way, yielding to the ambulance.

He was apparently running high-speed Code 3 to pick up his wife at the restaurant. A “Mystery Woman” enters the vehicle at the restaurant (purported to be his wife), and off he goes again to start trouble.

Why is he running Code 3 after picking up his wife, and involving her in the dangerous “chase”?

The ambulance immediately yields and stops.

The cop disrespects the authority of the paramedic immediately, even after the P-medic informs him that he is the senior official onboard the ambulance.

Even after being told that they have a patient onboard, and that this can be sorted out at the Hospital, the little tyrant still presses and escalates the issue.

The press release on Fox above states that the Troopers decided not to press charges against the P-medic because it would leave that County without a Paramedic. Last time I checked the law was supposedly the law, regardless of circumstances?

The tyrants’ attitude pisses me off to no freakin’ end. His attorney trots out that he is a US Navy Vet that just got back from a tour in Iraq.

I hope you can find the opportunity to work this in, David. The video says it all.

This is an out-of-control child throwing a hissy fit because he didn’t get his butt kissed just the way he likes it (or he was late picking up the wife for dinner, what an excuse to risk public lives).

The Appleseed Militia

Court documents said anti-terrorism agents keep an eye on the gun range because the informant says it's known as a militia training center.

But Faire claims the word "militia" is just a part of an inside joke. He says his group is a local chapter of Project Appleseed, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching marksmanship and preserving gun rights. [More]

A Town Council debate over banning Tasers in the resort was met with some resistance by council members eager to have one for their own protection at home or work. [More]

Y'know what, you wannabe commissars? Criminals don't care about your stupid damn rules, and neither do a growing number of fed up Americans who are sick and tired of fools like you presuming to define their adult choices for them.

Some of us could not care less about your insulting "large sums of money" exceptions--although it does tell us something about your shallow values, that you deem a well-heeled rope-selling "capitalist" of more value than...who, exactly?

And who is this Lloyd Martin character, a freaking NRA member who says "he doesn't want stun guns sold on the Boardwalk"?

Then we have this epitome of "Only One" arrogance:

Police Chief Bernadette DiPino, who initially brought the issue before the council last month, said Taser use has been studied in depth by Maryland law enforcement agencies and it's judged to be a safe alternative to deadly force.

DiPino wants to ban sales and possession of electronic stun guns because, like a handgun, "it's more likely to be turned on you when you carry it than it is to be utilized to defend yourself."

In other words, it's OK if she uses it, but you're just not competent and trustworthy enough.

You ever notice those who make these stupid takeaway claims never give live demonstrations where they show people how it's done?

This past week the newspaper was served with a grand jury subpoena from the U.S. attorney's office demanding that we turn over all records pertaining to those postings, including "full name, date of birth, physical address, gender, ZIP code, password prompts, security questions, telephone numbers and other identifiers ... the IP address," et (kitchen sink) cetera. Newsflash, Monique Martin--the person firing a gun is responsible for ricochets, too. At least I know non-"Only Ones" are.

And as for "vicious dogs," did they actually...uh...bite anybody?

None of this is to defend idiot owners who let their animals run loose. But the scenario of "several shots" at close range with a shotgun, where the target is repeatedly missed and a bystander is hit does not exactly give the judgment exhibited unquestioned credibility. Excuse-making aside, assessing the greater public danger ought to be based on results.

Funny how actual Memphis animal control officers are prohibited from using firearms--I guess they are required by law to defer to the people who escalate things into lead flying in all directions.
