Concerned American figures there are some natural allies out there for liberty activists to broaden the base with. I don't disagree. I've always believed in being inclusive that way.

I just insist on it being a two-way street. A lot of the more politically-minded treat this like it's just about money, and don't particularly want to be identified with icky gun people, because then the SPLC might attack them too.

Schaffer admits that he later sent similar photos (both nude and "partially nude") of himself back to the woman—using, believe it or not, "computer equipment belonging to the Goddard Police Department and the citizens of Goddard, Kansas." A former lieutenant with the Baton Rouge Police Department was sentenced to a federal prison term of more than six years Thursday for distribution of child pornography. [More]

We all realize that's the same sentence Wayne Fincher got for exercising what anyone honest would have to admit is his Constitutionally-recognized right?

So being a patriot gets the same government response as being a pedophile pervert, and an "Only One" pedophile pervert who abused his position of power and trust at that?

I can understand why some might figure the costs and benefits of surrendering vs. resisting need to be factored into their ultimate decision to accept that.

For instance, that William Kostric photo they used in the title post is an AP photo by Joel Page. I see no credit for it, and as they ought to know, AP has begun an aggressive campaign to charge for content. I use their stuff on Gun Rights Examiner, but that's because there is a license authorizing it.

I wouldn't be surprised to find AlterNet has a similar license, but lack of a credit under the picture makes me wonder. It couldn't hurt to ask AP if they do...at least it couldn't hurt us...

GOP Establishment Targets Rand Paul

On September 23rd, twenty three Republican US Senators are holding a $500 per plate fundraiser in Washington DC for Trey Grayson - Rand Paul's opponent. This deck stacking favoritism in a highly contested GOP primary is unacceptable!

Here's Rand Paul's stance on guns. It's good, although I wish he'd replace the gun in the banner with something a little less "sporting."

A cursory looking around for Trey Grayson comes up with this:

Judge Sotomayor’s record on the bench clearly demonstrates a long record of judicial activism on the bench. She has consistently held a narrow view of the Second Amendment. Her decisions have contained little reasoning or explanation for her views, and she has twice ruled that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right.

One point of contention with the article: A bill can't allow that--only the people in the home can. Fortunately for the authorities, it's in Massachusetts, so they probably will.

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I wonder what the government and media is not telling us about this swine flu scare. For instance, stories I read seem to assume it will present a uniform risk throughout the land. I see no one really addressing if certain areas and demographics are more at risk than others--probably the inherent political correctness on the part of bureaucrats and "Authorized Journalists," combined with delving into that not fitting into the government's agenda of total control.

I wonder if Barry and Michelle will drag Malia and Sasha out in front of the cameras for a public inoculation just to show everyone how safe they think it is. Of course, that would lend itself to a whole new conspiracy about the vaccine being substituted...

A question for the freedom-minded: Say a really contagious and dangerous beastie is out there, a Black Death kind'a bug. What steps should be taken to prevent people who will not voluntarily segregate themselves from going out into the wider world?

Some Things Can't Be Laid to Rest

Two young adults have been. [More] Correspondent Mack H originally sent me the story of the two Virginia Tech students slain in the national forest. I'd like to share some of our email exchanges.

MH: Authorities have stepped up patrols. So everyone can 'feel' safer, I guess. One word describe all of this: EVIL. Do not think 'mentally ill' - whoever did this was evil. Period. DC: It was a National Forest, not a National Park, so the ban that will exist until Feb 10 did not apply--NF's abide by the state rules where their territories overlap. That said, both were too young to qualify for handgun permits in VA--another outrage in itself. MH: That is correct. However, in Va., we can open-carry in most places -- EXCEPT in state parks, thanks to Timmy Kaine. I'll send you his pathetic letter later, if I can find it. Virginians can open-carry from age 18 onward. VCDL is covering this. DC: Thanks for the clarification--is the state park OC ban paralleled in national forests? MH: Well, the answer is a bit complicated. The relevant Forest Service CFR reg is 36 CFR 261.8(b): [See gpoaccess.gov for further details] The following are prohibited **to the extent** Federal or ***State law is violated***: "(b) Possessing a firearm or other implement designed to discharge a missile capable of destroying animal life." The problem: Kaine refused to honor an AG opinion which declared that open-carry in Virginia parks is legal. I'll send the documents in a follow up. MH: Here is a brief overview: 1) This is an AG opinion, requested by a strong pro-gun Delegate, Richard Black (his second attempt): http://oag.state.va.us/Opinions/2002opns/02-074.pdf Basically, the idea is if you have a CHP, only the General Assembly, not the state parks department (DCR), can ban concealed carry in state parks. The opinion had nothing to say about open carry. Then governor Mark Warner grudgingly accepted that opinion and had the regs revised to allow concealed carry in state parks. =============== 2) About a year ago, Senator Ken T. Cuccinelli, II requested an AG opinion from the AG Bob Mcdonnell, concerning open carry in state aprks. Here is that opinion: http://oag.state.va.us/OPINIONS/2008opns/08-043-Cuccinelli.pdf [SNIP] I find no specific statutory authority granting the Department the authority to prohibit the open carrying of firearms in state parks. A person’s right to carry a firearm openly is considered universal within the Commonwealth, subject to definite and limited restrictions upon certain locations and classifications of individuals. Accordingly, it is my opinion that the Department of Conservation and Recreation has only such authority to restrict the open carrying of firearms which is expressly provided by law. Thank you for letting me be of service to you. Sincerely, Robert F. McDonnell =================== As you may be aware, McDonnell is running for Governor, and Cuccinelli is running for Attorney General. Once again, it was up to the governor (Tim Kaine) to accept the opinion and order the regs changed. Well, VCDL tried reasoning with his office, to no avail. finally, VCDL received a letter indicating the Governor would NOT honor the AG opinion. VCDL letters page.  Kaine's letter  [SNIP] DCR's longstanding ban is an important aspect of maintaining the safety and attractiveness of our state parks. Park visitors must have confidence that they can enjoy our parks without concern about the open carriage of firearms. =========== Well, there you have it. I assume you know that Kaine is the new DNC Chair.

A Chandler homicide detective who was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife has agreed to 36 months of probation and substance-abuse counseling in a deferred prosecution deal in Gilbert Municipal Court on Friday.

If Brett Lockwood, 35, completes the terms of his probation he will not be prosecuted on the misdemeanor assault charge. [More]

This Day in History: September 1

September 1, 1777 at Fort Henry, Virginia - On September 1, 400 Indians laid siege to Fort Henry, named in honor of Patrick Henry. The settlers took refuge in the fort before the Indians attacked. Several soldiers died in skirmishes outside the walls before the siege began. After American reinforcements arrived, the Indians burned the settlement, killed livestock, and then withdrew. Chris Matthews on Bill Clinton: 'That is the Voice of God'

His religious ecstasy continues, this time for former president Bill Clinton. Tonight on "Hardball" he played a clip of Clinton telling the party faithful that health care must be passed or the democrats will suffer for it politically.

We're the Only Ones Blameless Enough

The tragedy that led to the Adames lawsuit in Illinois occurred eight years ago, when 13-year-old Billy Swan aimed and fired a Beretta pistol at a friend who had come over to play, Joshua Adames, who also was 13. The gun belonged to Billy’s dad, a Cook County sheriff’s deputy. Billy had taken out the gun’s clip before aiming it, believing that would make it harmless. A bullet that had remained in the gun’s chamber killed Joshua.

Billy’s parents sued Beretta, among others, contending that the gun manufacturer failed to warn users of this kind of pistol that removal of the magazine did not make it safe. [More]

So is Billy's dad hoping to make a buck off his incompetent complicity in the death of a child? That's probably the most disgusting act of blaming others I've ever read about. Seriously.

But at least he helps prove the point about Cook County "Only Ones" being more trained with guns than the rest of us. Or more trustworthy.

Several of you have emailed me a link to the video of "Only One" Wesley Cheeks telling a protester to remove an Obama sign.

This exchange should be in our minds:

"This used to be America."

"It ain't no more, OK?"

That an utter boob like this can hold any job with authority over others is appalling.

I can think of one question for them right off the bat: Do you let this moron carry a gun?

I also wonder if the job really does require an oath to the Constitution like he claims in the video. Because he sure ain't one of these guys...

The tips generally came in from the northern part of the county, and the rewards were picked up in the southern half. Some involved a county gun bounty program.

Who could ever have predicted such programs lent themselves to abuse...?

Thank goodness New Jersey exempts "Only Ones" from their new one-gun-a-month law because they're so much more stable and trustworthy than the rest of us...

And thank goodness the story makes no mention of a pump-action shotgun...

Silence on Friesen Case Shows Continued Media Failure on Guns

So why is it we'd have never known about this story at all if we relied on the "mainstream media"? See for yourself what a Google News search yields.

Now compare that with something really important to keep the sovereign public informed on, say, "Twilight" or "Jon & Kate Plus 8"...

Aside from blogs and forums frequented mainly by activist gun owners, our fellow citizens would never know the Friesen story happened. Most still don't and never will. [More]

See, this is why police should be the "Only Ones" who have "patrol rifles"--if someone untrained like you or I had them, we might do something stupid like leave them unguarded but visible overnight in our cars, and then who knows what evil might result...?

Sounds like it's happening all over the place, doesn't it, with it happening in Sandoval and Bernalillo Counties, and Albuquerque, in addition to Rio Rancho...?
