British Attack on Savannah December 28, 1778
By 1778, the British altered their strategy to subdue the American rebellion. An army of over 3,000 British regulars, German mercenaries and American Loyalists sailed from New York to capture Savannah. Under the command of Lt. Col. Archibald Campbell, the expedition would use the city as a base of operations against Patriot forces in the South. The British advance into Savannah was virtually uncontested by the surprised Georgia Continentals. For the duration of the war in America, Savannah was an occupied city. [More]

An Important Message for All Sipsey Street Irregulars...uh...Regulars
While society rewards the likes of Snooki from Jersey Shore with celebrity and fortune, and while lying, incompetent "Authorized Journalists" enjoy their paychecks, benefits, matching 401K contributions and the like, the market for liberty leadership is flat.
We need the leaders, but no one seems willing to pay for them.
Friends of Mike Vanderboegh have contacted me and are concerned that he's financially hurting. I know for a fact that he is--with health problems also being a concern--and have been wondering what we who look to him on a regular basis for analysis, guidance and leadership can do.
As would be expected, Mike is not only proud, but selfless. When I contacted him about saying something--because I don't wish to embarrass him--his response did not surprise me in the least. I don't make a practice of sharing private emails, and I trust he'll forgive me for sharing a portion of this one--while admitting the difficult time his family is facing, this was his primary response:
Not a cent in gift money.
What I will ask you to do --all of you who visit his site every day and receive value from it--is pay for that value. I'm asking you to voluntarily subscribe to Sipsey Street Irregulars and help Mike continue to bring YOU his daily reports and insights.
Just so we're clear: This is NOT CHARITY. This is PAYMENT FOR SERVICES BEING RENDERED.
How much? I won't put a ceiling on the maximum, but would submit the recommended minimum should be something we all, with very few exceptions/excuses can afford: A dollar a month.
I see from Mike's Site Meter that SSI brings in around 2,400 discrete visitors each day. That means if we all do this, the guy will actually be able to pay most of the bills and focus on giving us what he's been selflessly providing every day for years--with no compensation or expectations of personal gain.
What is this guy, our slave? Do people pay you for what you do?
I'll accept that some--a few--are simply not in a position to do this, with financial straits of their own. But I bet most of us are able. How much do we spend a year on ammo? Do you think we can get through this without intellectual ammunition and leadership?
How many will man up and do the right thing? 3/4? Half?Under a dozen of you?
My experience with trying to get simple things done, like sharing a link or sending an email, does not fill me with great hopes. Sorry, not trying to start a fight here, but I've said before, if anything induces me to finally hang things up and take care of Number One, it will be those "Profiles in Apathy" that to me represent a greater threat than the antis will ever be capable of presenting.
I don't want to hear great words of Liberty and "Is it time yet?" and all the other brave words of defiance from thousands of self-professed Threepers who won't even do this small thing. If you won't do it, if you won't help when you know in your heart you could, my guess is it will show the oppressor all he needs to know about the personal commitment of those who say they'll stand up to him.
Regulars here know I never ask anyone to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.
My envelope with my $12 annual subscription fee is in the mail.
If you agree with me, yours will be too, and you'll spread the word.
And I apologize to Mike if this embarrasses him. I did not get his permission to do this. But unless he tells me flat out that leaving this plea up will end our friendship, I'll not obey any orders from him to take this post down.

Once You Are Approved
You can’t just go pick up a pistol license. Oneida County Judge Michael Dwyer, the county’s chief pistol license officer, requires prospective applicants to complete the first eight hours of the National Rifle Association basic pistol course. They're not only oath breakers, they're blasphemers.
“After that, you can make an appointment to be fingerprinted, and it’s a four-month process (background checks and more),” Sullivan said. “Once you are approved, you can buy a gun.” [More]
But perhaps I'm being too hard on them, and too ungrateful for the safeguards and protections they offer: After all, if they can get the violent criminals to do this, they're keeping us all a lot safer.

A Disarming Video
Three days after he posted a series of six video clips recorded with a cell phone camera at San Francisco International Airport, four federal air marshals and two sheriff's deputies arrived at his house to confiscate his federally-issued firearm. The pilot recorded that event as well and provided all the video to News10.Make sure you watch the video. That's quite a gang-up. I'm surprised they didn't at least kill his dog.
At the same time as the federal marshals took the pilot's gun, a deputy sheriff asked him to surrender his state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon.
A follow-up letter from the sheriff's department said the CCW permit would be reevaluated following the outcome of the federal investigation. [More]
So much for depending on the government for permission to keep and bear arms. They don't like you and so much for that. But doesn't this just show the ridiculousness of the whole presumption--that videotaping official thugs and boobs makes someone who knows them when he sees them too dangerous to be trusted with a firearm.
But he can still fly.

BRADY CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES ‘GODDARDS ON GUNS’ BLOG
“Father and Son take on gun lobby after VA Tech Tragedy”
Washington, D.C. – A father who nearly lost his only son to gun violence, and that son, who survived being shot four times in the worst school shooting in U.S. history, are adding their voices to the blogosphere, the Brady Campaign today announced.
Virginia Tech survivor Colin Goddard and his father, Andrew, who are both active in the gun violence prevention movement, are teaming up to write a blog about gun issues.
“Since being shot at Virginia Tech, a number of people have told me that crazy people are going to do crazy things and there’s nothing we can do about it,” said Colin Goddard, 25. “I reject that premise. There are things we can and must do. One of them is to speak out against America’s epidemic of gun violence and talk about the solutions. My voice is my greatest weapon, and blogging with my father is one of the ways I intend to use it.”
The Goddards didn’t know it then, but the April 16, 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre, in which 32 students and teachers were killed, would be the event that would help them find their voices on gun violence and spur them to pursue meaningful social and public policy changes to prevent similar tragedies.
The Virginia Tech killer, who carried out the massacre with two semi-automatic assault pistols, should not have been legally allowed to purchase those guns because of his history of mental illness. When the Goddards discovered how easy it is for dangerous people to get guns in America, they vowed to fight for change.
Colin Goddard, who now works at the Brady Campaign as Assistant Director for Federal Legislation, went to gun shows with a hidden camera in 2009 as an intern for Brady to expose the loophole that allows private sellers to sell guns without criminal background checks.
That experience, and Colin’s work at Brady, inspired filmmakers to make the young man’s story the subject of a new documentary, Living for 32, which has been accepted for competition in the Short Films category at the Sundance Film Festival (see http.www.livingfor32.com) and is being screened at select venues around the country. The producer is Maria Cuomo Cole, who blogged about Colin and guns on campus on the Huffington Post recently. The post is available here.
Andrew Goddard, a retired engineer who resides in Richmond, Va., became president of the Richmond Chapter of the Million Mom March shortly after the Virginia Tech shootings.Any bets on whether or not these professional victims will allow "reasoned discourse"?
As Andrew sat near his recuperating son’s bedside that snowy April day and noticed that “sandbags are piled against the wounds to stem the bleeding, but the sheets and pillow slowly turn from starched white to dull red,” questions nagged and tugged at him. “What circumstances caused this terrible event? Where did (the shooter) get his guns and what made him want to shoot all those people? What could have been done to prevent this?” Andrew recalled with Colin in their introductory blog posted at bradycampaign.org and www.hufffingpost.com
The Goddards will blog about “the flow of guns between the legal and illegal markets, state and federal gun legislation and policies, mental health, school and university policies, and America’s culture of gun violence in general.”
Colin Goddard can also be followed on Twitter and Facebook.
###
As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies. The Brady Campaign is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

I've suggested the corporate slogan "Just slightly ahead of our ability."

If you have a "remote" affiliation with a gang or you have a "federal gun" law enforcement is "coming for you." [More]
Oregon Firearms Federation brings us a cadre of masters first inventing--and then dictating the terms of our surrender.
I would also remind everyone that the ability to continue their fine work does not happen on its own.
The overlords can rely on the oppressed to provide them with a virtually unlimited war chest.
The defenders must rely on...us.
Gun Bashing

We're the Only Ones Two Out of Three Enough
A felony theft charge against Foucault was dismissed as part of a plea agreement reached with the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office. [More]Still, I wonder how many people he put away in his career on gun and drug charges...?
And how many of them got probation with the promise of clean records?

Vested Interests Leave Gaping Holes
Livery Cab Drivers To Receive Bulletproof Vests [More]And then they'll turn their backs on their fares leaving the back of their heads the most opportune close-range target.
Fernando Mateo appears bipolar on the self-defense issue.
On the one hand, he is trying to arm bodega owners. On the other, he promotes inane "buy backs."
And naturally, he's taken care of.
Let's just hope none of his union members have problematic pasts, because:
As of February 2010, it is against federal law for a convicted felon to possess, purchase or wear any type of body armor.[Via David R]
Welcome to Malpractice Disguised as Qualified Advice, with Dr. Helen Minciotti
Dr. Helen Minciotti said it, I believe it, that settles it.Pediatric safety advocates point out that while safe firearm storage practices and educational efforts are important, they are still second best to the most effective gun strategy out there: keeping guns entirely out of homes with children. [More]
Hey, I wonder what the expert Dr. Helen would have done had those guys broken into her home...? No, I didn't mean to invite scatological comments, but you're probably right.
And of course this means the same rules must apply to the "Only Ones"?
Yo, Helen: Fill this out?
We're the Only Ones Estranged Enough
The man accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend is a federal law enforcement officer. [More]And he worked the Hartsfield-Jackson beat?

We're the Only Ones Bordering on Suspicious Enough
Woman arrested at port, accused of having Border Patrol gun [More]And she may have other items she got from them...? How?
And she's 25...?
I suppose it would be out of line, sexist, evil-minded and unnecessarily suspicious to wonder if maybe a little quim pro quo action was going on here...?
Nahh...I'm sure BATFU just wants to be helpful because that's what they're here for.

A Beacon of Hope
"The National Rifle Association in America is the standard by which all gun owners judge themselves," said Rahoul Rai, NAGRI's semi-official spokesman. "Here is an organization that has protected the fundamental democratic right [to bear arms] which has withstood the test of time. Which has brought gun ownership not just to the United States but to the whole world. For us in India, this is the beacon of hope." [More]Considering the political climate, it is a good first step, and gives them a model for organizing and lobbying. As for the hyperbole and evangelical fervor for all things Fairfax, they're new at this. Give them time and some will get to here:

Superpowers and the Second Amendment
First, all possessors of potentially harmful powers could be subject to a background check if they did not have the powers from birth. If they failed the background check, they could be forbidden to use the power (although use in self-defense might still be allowed by the Constitution). A registration scheme would be likely (Note, this likely would not run afoul of the Constitution because it does not apply to all mutants or superpowered individuals, just those with potentially harmful powers). How do you say "ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!" in Kryptonian?
Second, exceptional powers could be subject to a permitting system including more thorough background checks and training requirements. Some powers could be expressly prohibited outside police or military use. [More]
Attorney says Aitken to appeal for vindication on gun charges
"Our next step is to win the appeal to vindicate Brian. I am confident of our success." [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column presents an appealing and vindicating story.
Also make an appeal to your friends about something I hope appeals to you.
And once more I'm appealing that you share the link and vindicate these efforts.

Your Comments Are Important To Us
So we’re looking at 2.5 weeks to generate comments on a regulation of this magnitude? During holiday season? No online comments for this regulation. Congress to recess in mere days. Nicely done. [More]GunLeaders.com has further important thoughts to share on the BATFU long gun registration story. It looks like they're intentionally making things difficult.

What It's About
There really should not be any dispute about this. It is not an argument about policy. It is about nothing more, or less, than who can look up a number in a government publication more accurately. [More]While true, that's not what it's about.
It's about enabling tyranny. Whether as co-conspirators or useful idiots...
We're the Only Ones Booming Boomer Enough
The family had an electric fence, but there was not a sign alerting the officer it was there, Daniel said. [More]In the course of our daily walks, the wife and I pass literally dozens of such yards with yapping mutts asserting their territoriality. They're knuckleheads--that's what they do. If we acknowledge them at all it's to laugh and tell them how good and cute and brave they are, and to apologize for not having any treats.
So it figures the "Only One" response is to murder the family pooch.
Reports on Traver nomination increase expectation tensions
This is the public face of the state of the nomination. I’ve also received information from a confidential source that paints things in a very different light. Understand that this may or may not unfold—while my source characterizes it as “solid intel, as far as it goes,” that qualifier acknowledges the reality that sometimes things don’t go as we’ve been told, and sometimes, there is intent behind that. With that caveat, here’s what I’ve been sent, edited only for expletives... [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at the public face of things and then takes a peek behind the scenes.

Of the frigates the Deane was fully manned and ready for sea: the others would have been nearly so, if privateering had not made it practically impossible, without great delay, to get men for their crews (Publ. R. I. Hist. Soc., viii, 255, 256; Brit. Adm. Rec., A.D. 489, No. 19, December 20, 1778, intelligence collected for Admiral Gambier.) These six frigates represented almost the entire strength of the Continental navy in commission in American waters at the end of 1778. [More]

ATF ‘emergency’ long gun reporting an agenda-driven power grab
That’s funny. I don’t see anything in there about “Assess where in the Constitution such authority in data-gathering is determined consistent with the intent of the Founders that 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.'" I guess that kind of archaic thinking generally results in a scornful “Are you serious?” rejection these days… [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column urges you to make sure BATFU botches a bypass operation.
