Those who have long too successfully laboured to inflame my people in America by gross misrepresentations, and to infuse into their minds a system of opinions, repugnant to the true constitution of the colonies, and to their subordinate relation to Great-Britain, now openly avow their revolt, hostility and rebellion.

A Strong and Consistent Voice
"Congressman Chet Edwards is a strong and consistent voice for freedom and for defending the rights of Texas gun owners, hunters and sportsmen,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman for the NRA Political Victory Fund.Yep, here's the rating and endorsement.
That must be why Chet supports this guy, you know, the guy we're told will be "the most anti-gun president in American history."
That doesn't even shave a point off the "A" rating?
And why does GOA give Chet a "D"? Some would tell us it's because they're NRA wannabe malcontents who exist by siphoning off funds from our true gun rights leaders. Is there any objective way we can see which rating should have more credibility?
Well, Chet's opponent, Rob Curnock (rated "AQ"*), is none too happy, claiming:
“The NRA gave Edwards a grade of A, but a few years ago they gave him an F,” Curnock said. “It goes up and down. If it’s an election year he does what he needs to do to make the votes to get their support. But, if you look at his overall record, Edwards consistently votes against many of the key values the NRA espouses. Not quite. I'm not saying he didn't, but I can't find where he voted for the Brady Bill. But what kind of spots are on his record? How "strong and consistent" has his "voice" been?
“He voted for the Brady Bill, voted to restrict gun magazine clip sizes. That’s one of the perks of being a longtime incumbent, but his voting record is very spotty.”
He voted the Brady way:
- For final passage of "campaign finance reform."
- Against the "Pickering Amendment to provide exception for gun lobby campaign ads."
- Against "reducing the amount of time for law enforcement to conduct background checks on gun sales."
- For the McCarthy/Blagojevich/Roukema "Mandatory Gun Show Background Check Act."
- Against "Final Passage of H.R. 2122...now including the weakened gun show background check amendment and the reinstatement of the pawn shop redemption exemption."
- Against "Repeal of the Assault Weapons Ban."
- For "The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, containing a ban on semi-automatic assault weapons and a ban on juvenile possession of handguns."
- For "Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act) that bans the manufacture, transfer, or possession of semi-automatic assault weapons. This measure is similar to the amendment to the Senate-passed crime bill, sponsored by Senator Dianne Feinstein."
- Against the "McCollum Amendment...to the Brady Bill...that would have preempted all state and local gun laws when the national instant check system went into effect."
- Against the Volkmer/Sensenbrenner Amendment, that would have deleted "a provision banning the manufacture of 22 semi-automatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines (over 7 rounds)" from The Omnibus Crime Control Act of 1991.
See, NRA is into access. And they're into backing incumbents who look like sure winners, so they can claim electoral success in races they back. That's the only guarantee you have on how the dollars you donate to PVF will be used.
Does anybody seriously think Chet Edwards will deny President Obama's call to ban "assault weapons"?
But if we don't continue to follow along, it will be our fault. Besides, questioners are just "principle freaks."
And we wonder why we're in the mess we're in, and how we got to this point with such poor choices, as if years of this MO don't give us a clue. Is anybody else sick and damned tired of being played like this?

'Conservatives' for Change
The YouTube video features real conservatives who've decided to vote for Obama.Thing is, all the searches I've done for this group fail to run down who they are and what their actual political philosophies and histories over the years have been. It's one thing to be a RINO or a neocon, and quite another to be a conservative in the sense that you believe in a liited federal government bound not to exceed the powers specifically delegated and enumerated in the Constitution.
This does point out the dangers of the Big Tent pushing the elephant out of the center ring, though. A flashier carnival pulls into town and all the clowns pack into their mini-car and bail on you.
The One Good Thing about Obama
Is that his presidency might actually precipitate the disintegration of the United States...Scary, isn't it? Bloody terrifying, actually.
But what do we do if the alternative turns out to be scarier?
Everybody's a Critic
I refer this time to what the Illinois State Rifle Association has discovered, that Kotowski is apparently siccing the state police on people who call or FAX him to express their displeasure with his civilian disarmament agenda. He can't sic 'em on all of us.

Depending on Time and Place
A Memorial Middle School sixth-grade teacher shot and killed a man who forced his way into her home about 5 a.m...See, you have to understand--she had the wherewithal, mindset and capability to handle the situation in her home, but if you put her in her workplace, something will happen where only the "Only Ones" become qualified to handle things.
I think it's magic or something.
Have You Got a 27B-Stroke-6?*
Employees of the City of Lincoln Council, including plumbers, who have reason to be going into families' homes in the United Kingdom municipality, have been told they soon will be expected to watch for signs of child abuse and report to authorities. And here we thought Brazil was an absurdist dystopian fantasy. Where is Harry Tuttle when you need him?

It Sure Would Be, Tom
Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge said today that John McCain can't become president without carrying Pennsylvania and that the race would be different if McCain had chosen him as his running mate.Indeed it would.
An Impartial Jurist
A federal judge appointed by President Bill Clinton broke judicial rules to contribute to Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign on multiple occasions. So partisan she's willing to break the rules. I wonder if that could be used as grounds for conservatives and libertarians to demand she recuse herself from their cases, or as the basis for appeal if she does not...?
A Stern Warning
Thirteen campaign workers for Barack Obama yesterday yanked their voter registrations and ballots in Ohio after being warned by a prosecutor that temporary residents can't vote in the battleground state. And they're not arrested and awaiting prosecution because...?

Ask Tom McClintock a Question
I have been offered an opportunity to interview Senator McClintock, and thought I would open up the comments to anyone who wants to ask a question of him. I have a few I’m thinking of asking, but if someone comes up with a good one, I’d be happy to include it.

Don't even think about trying to outrun the cops in Lazio, Italy, unless you can do 204 mph because the boys in blue are rollin' in a 560-horsepower Lamborghini Gallardo that'll do 203.Mama Mia! JPFO's Role is to Educate, Not Elect
So again, do yourself a favor and educate yourself on what exactly gun groups do. Look through hype, and understand exactly what their role is in the whole game. That includes knowing the tax status and affiliated arms of each group - if only because you don’t want to get them into hot water.Bitter is absolutely right. JPFO does not lobby and they do not electioneer. And I know Aaron Zelman is extremely careful not to cross the line. I know this not only from his public record, but also first-hand from private telephone conversations and correspondences I've had with him.

Who Ya Gonna Call?
What does Ayers do? The guy who helped bomb a police station calls the cops. That is surprising. Generally, Bolsheviks don't call the cops until they're in power. Then they call them all the time.
Zealous Guardians of the Second Amendment

To begin with, there are Second Amendment rights, and as a federal law enforcement agency, we'll zealously guard those rights. That zealous guardian would be Maximum Mike of BATFU, of course, winner of the coveted WarOnGuns Pinnochio Award.
Who's Looking Out for the Average Joe?
Allegations are that computers in the Ohio state government were used to dig up personal information on 'Joe the Plumber' Wurzelbacher once he made national news questioning Obama's tax policies. This, of course, is the same Nancy Rogers who is stonewalling doing anything about Ohio police harassing citizens for open carry.
This time, authorities have confirmed that the computers in question were assigned to the offices of corrupt Democrat partisan Attorney-General Nancy H. Rogers, who defied a court order to turn over 200,000 fraudulent voter registrations for verification, as mandated by federal law.
She's a lame duck appointee, filling out a term and not running for reelection. Both the repub and dem who are running get "A" ratings from NRA, so I think it's time to find out if they're willing to work for it-- and if those excellent grades have real world meaning...

Feigning Ignorance of the Law is No Excuse

It's an absurd and intolerable situation. Those tasked with upholding the law are arresting--and endangering-- those abiding by it. In some cases they're claiming ignorance--in others, they're apparently claiming the power to defy state law and enact and enforce their own. We need to stop it, now, before anyone else's life is disrupted, or God forbid, someone gets hurt or worse.
My Gun Rights Examiner column for today is now up.
Thanks to all of you who have passed the word along about this. It appears to be making a difference, as their political guy told me yesterday the numbers are looking good, so please keep up whatever you're doing.

I'm sorry, but the word "sodomy" always reminds me of Groucho's "That's bigamy!" joke.
I will stress that it's legally an allegation at this point, but in this set of circumstances, the New York "Only Ones' " reputation precedes them.

"While unlocking the back door, the suspect ran at Officer Ek," the police report says.
I'm sorry, but this thing reads like a scene from a "Three Stooges" short. I can just hear Curly going "Woob-woob-woob..." and see them all tearing up the place and hitting each other over the head with shovels as the raccoon outsmarts them at every turn...

Guest Commentary: Palm Pistol Unique in More than Design
David:
Many thanks for discussing the ergonomic aspects of the Palm Pistol on your blog. These are the principle issues my design is intended to address.Seniors and the disabled are one of the most vulnerable segments of society and therefore suffer a disproportionate share of becoming victims of crime.I am unaware of any prior attempt to develop an effective self-defense firearm specifically addressing this market.
You may be interested to learn that I am in the process of applying for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) coding for the Palm Pistol. This process is the responsibility of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).Part of the effort requires a determination by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) whether the firearm is a "medical device" as defined under 21 USC 321.
I contacted the government attorney who is responsible for these so-called"device/not a device" determinations. When I spoke with him by phone after initially contacting him by email, he explained the reason he had not responded was the fact my request was unprecedented and he did not yet know how this would be handled. He further suggested this was well outside his responsibility and this would have to be decided at the very highest agency level and potentially outside the agency itself. Based on our discussion, while he could not offer any formal opinions, it seemed clear to me the agency could not state in was NOT a medical device. So the bottom line is,the jury is still out.
If I am successful in obtaining DME coding, this would be the first time a firearm could potentially be reimbursable as a DME under health insurance plans if prescribed by a physician for qualified insured's. Although it is unlikely it would ever be reimbursable under Medicare, private health insurance companies may see this as a valuable marketing tool to attract certain customers. I suspect this will make national news.
As an aside, you also may be interested to learn that both AARP and Arthritis Magazine rejected my ads for the Palm Pistol since they refuse to accept anything that relates to firearms. This is pretty outrageous given the likelihood that large numbers of their members support the RKBA and would be very interested in this product. Liberalism has become the new fascism.
I am currently refining my rough legal research notes concerning the DME coding effort. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them, and again, thank you for your interest in this novel idea.

We're the Only Ones Young at Heart Enough
Cop booked in rape of 13-year-old was investigated twice for raping young girls, but remained on the jobWell since it's New Orleans, it must be one of those extremely rare bad apple cases...why sure, officer--as long as it's you, I see no problem in surrendering my guns...
But I still haven't received an answer to the question I usually pose when "Only Ones" cases like this come up...
We're the Only Ones Jockeying for Position and Scratching Out a Living Enough
Lt. Kieran Crowe, a 23-year-veteran, was suspended 60 days without pay for rubbing his crotch, simulating masturbation and wiggling his tongue at the male sergeants in his Equal Employment Opportunity office at Police Headquarters. So could you say an "Only One" who is gay and suffers from a tinea cruris infection is a fungi...?
Crowe admitted at his department hearing that he may have scratched his groin area, but said it was because he suffered from jock itch.
And I do apologize...
It's Time to Play "Fix that Quote"!

Peaceable Armed Citizens?

It sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it, a peaceable armed citizen? If they like peace so much, what are they doing armed? After all, aren't we told the only purpose of a gun is to kill people?Today's Gun Rights Examiner piece is up.
I repeat: If you are a WarOnGuns regular, and wish to see a platform for getting the message conveyed on this site to a larger general audience, please help spread the word to your gun owner friends via emails, forums, etc.
I see my column continues to hold its own (it's been listed as "Most Popular" every day this week, but for the local, not national market.) I'd like to prove to the corporate media decision makers that the topic merits more attention, and everywhere. Thing is, there's not been a dedicated focus like this before, so it's new territory for them. There can be a demand for these ideas, but they'll never know it unless we prove it to them, assuming I'm not being overly presumptuous in asking.
We're the Only Ones Listing to the Left Enough
The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.I wonder what list you and I are on, fellow activist gun owners...but that's not the main thing that sticks out in this admission.
Check it out: the state admits it knows these activists to be nonviolent.

We're the Only Ones Shack Attack Enough
The case of State v. Linda May Johnson was formally placed on the court's inactive docket, meaning the woman arrested, shackled and hauled off to the county jail for allegedly letting her miniature poodles, Ollie and Hershey, saunter onto a neighbor's lawn during their daily walks will not be prosecuted.Miniature?

About That Conference Call
I announced this the other day.
Nicki Fellenzer sums up her impressions and includes a recording of the entire thing.
She's right in that Gov. Blunt, who has been fairly good on guns, really didn't...uh...bluntly answer a few of the questions--mine, for instance, where I asked what incentive Republicans would have to ever change if they can go against our interests yet gun owners vote for them anyway. And I agree it will be unfair to point the finger at gun owners if the Republicans fail--if you extend that to its logical conclusion, it would also be our fault for not working for the McCain campaign, or donating money.
Bryan Pick, who makes his case in comments, points out the political realities we're facing. I understand where he's coming from and am grateful that he put this together and gave me an opportunity to participate. Also, it was nice of Chris at The Liberty Papers to record the conference call and make it available to us.
That said, my position on the election remains: I recommend voting your informed conscience, meaning taking into consideration what's at stake and realizing whatever choice you make will have an impact.

Gun Trust Lawyer: An Ergonomic Solution
As people age, they often develop medical issues that would prevent them from being able to use a normal firearm to protect themselves, their family, of their possessions. The Palm Pistol seems to have solved many of those problems by creating a single shot pistol with a combination lock and a thumb trigger.David M. Goldman (his NFA Gun Trust Lawyer Blog is a recent addition to the WoGRoll) addresses some of the concerns I've heard expressed about the innovative firearm that we discussed here.
The Trouble with Freedom
Slate editor-in-chief Jacob Weisberg thunders that recent headlines are evidence of "global economic meltdown made possible by libertarian ideas." According to Weisberg, author of a pro-Leviathan snoozer called In Defense of Government, "any competent forensic work has to put the libertarian theory of self-regulating financial markets at the scene of the crime."You got that? Our problem is we have too much economic freedom, and government doesn't have enough power and control.
Only national socialism can save us!

There's a Man with a Gun Over There
Yes, we are living in a society where every responsible citizen has the right to a choice on whether or not they will carry a gun, openly or concealed--or we should be.
My latest Examiner.com piece is up. Head on over, and please help spread the word on this excellent new platform for reaching outside "the choir."
Non-Negotiable
Sen. Barack Obama has one priority: to get elected. Period. Black leaders must have a different, urgent priority -- to put meat on the bones of a realistic black economic and social compact."People of the Gun" inspiration Laura Washington once more comes off as a raving racist Marxist loon.
Let's see, a "black leader" and an advocated socioeconomic agenda that could best be described as "national socialist"...
So would it be fair to speculate on the appropriateness of coining the term "Schwarzführer"?
Black America should demand that Obama cease his shameless pandering to the People of the Gun and launch a full-throttle crusade for sensible gun control. While he has been out on the campaign trail, dozens of Chicago children have been slaughtered in the streets...So are our unalienable rights. There is nothing to negotiate.
A national black agenda is non-negotiable.
The answer is "No." The longer answer is two words, and starts with "F."
Your move.

2A Today for the USA
We talked briefly about this yesterday, where I told you a little about the video, linked to it and introduced my sidebar click-through ad.Aaron Zelman really has done a good job--this is the perfect vehicle to introduce people to the concept of the Second Amendment and how it is their right. It leads them through the logical development, how RKBA had its ideological origins in religious texts that predate our government, how rights are unalienable...
It teaches them the concept of the militia, gives them insights into the thoughts of the Founders, and brings them persuasively into modern times--where we see the evil made possible by "gun control" through slavery, genocide and tyranny. It also shows the personal tragedy, as exemplified through the experiences and resolve of Dr. Susanna Hupp.
JPFO really has created a great tool here, one that is perfect for educating and priming people to be receptive to learn more. I urge you to watch it and, importantly, to share it.
I also urge you to support JPFO with a contribution to help them not only pay for this, but to continue their great work.
We can't continue expecting others to do things for us without giving them support. And we can't expect personal credibility for what we'll do when the chips are down if we won't make even small sacrifices while times are yet easy by comparison.

We're the Only Ones Defending Ourselves Enough
An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and killed a man who tried to rob him on the South Side Tuesday morning, officials said.In other words, if lethal force was justified, he had to do it because he was in fear for his life.
In other words, had it been you or me, we could now be dead.
Because you and I aren't "Only Ones."

We're the Only Ones Vested Enough
The "Thor Shield" was designed for police officers but sure to be more popular amongst protesters and other people who piss off police officers. It uses a layer of foil in the vest to draw the current of the taser, keeping your body nice and jolt-free. That'll really come in handy the next time you foolishly decide to get out of your car to argue with a cop at a traffic stop or decide to protest any of the government's actions.Wrong.
Thor Shield is only sold to Military and Law Enforcement AgenciesSo I guess if you want one, you'll just have to adapt the idea and make one for yourself. Unless that's against the law, too.
I mean think about it: Why should we trust you with a vest? Who do you think you are? An "Only One"?

The New Buccaneers
Security analysts and the Somali government are publicly flirting with the idea of hiring mercenaries to stop the pirates that are terrorizing east Africa. Now, the notorious guns-for-fire at Blackwater are responding to the call, with a resounding arrrr!!!!!Concerns with Blackwater domestic operations notwithstanding, I find a free market solution interesting. As long as there's no problem proving the scalps and ears turned in for the bounty are righteously harvested...and all the controls are in place to prevent abuses and ensure protection of the innocent that that implies.
Without it, what's to stop some enterprising mercenary from shanghaiing a crew, placing them on a stolen vessel, blowing it to hell and then collecting a reward? I mean, it's not like we're dealing with professors of ethics here. And what's the saying, "Dead men tell no tales"...?

Who Do You Trust?
Four ATF agents infiltrated the gang and were accepted as full members, a difficult process that requires winning the trust of the gang's top leaders over a period of months, Hoffman said. Not that I'm comparing the two, but what they can do to the Mongols they can do to a militia.
The agents were required to live away from their families in homes set up to make it look like they lived a Mongols lifestyle, Hoffman said. Four female undercover ATF agents also were involved in the operation, pretending to be biker girlfriends and attending parties with the agents.
Beware infiltrator informants and provocateurs. As we've seen too often, being a moral and patriotic American exercising Constitutionally-protected rights is no defense.

Don't Panic?

5. Don't panic. "When they knock, don't panic." Having worked on both sides of investigations, Howard offered plenty of observations, namely this: "It's all about pressure." He said he has seen investigators send in a uniformed SWAT team just for effect. "None of us think as well when we are under pressure," Howard said. "One of the ways to handle the pressure is to prepare for it now."What if they don't knock?
I agree with the part about not panicking and being prepared to handle pressure, though...

UPDATE: Robb Allen has improved on the original:
American Gun Owner = Trained Jihadist
Most unbelievable of all, though, is Judge Rogers’s take on guns. Can you imagine drawing a moral and factual equivalence between United States citizens who own firearms and alien terrorist trainees who have gone to jihadist camps and received instruction in explosives, close-combat, assassination tactics, and jihadist ideology? The mind reels.Sure I can.
III.
Well, except for those "alien terrorist trainees" and "jihadist ideology" bits. No need to get nasty. Besides, I prefer "Homegrown Terrorist."
I hope more minds reel.
The stronger and more capable and better equipped we are perceived to be, and there are indeed some strong, capable and equipped individuals, the better it is for everyone.

Some TN Permit Holders are Now Felons
Plain and simple, Tennessee's self-defense law was in my opinion much better before the NRA endorsed legislation was pushed through with the bi-partisan help of Republicans and Democrats in the Tennessee legislature many of which, in my belief, simply did not understand existing law and therefore tried to change it in perceived but misplaced need for a "castle doctrine" in Tennessee although we have had one for many years...
The effect of the new law is that now even non-violent felons are prohibited from possessing any firearms and also from buying firearms (TCA 39-17-1316) and also from having a handgun carry permit (TCA 39-17-1351) even if they have previously had their full rights of citizenship restored by a Tennessee court. They cannot hunt with a firearm. They cannot have a firearm in their home for self-defense. They cannot work as an armed guard. They cannot work in an armed law enforcement position.
They are unindicted felons instantly on July 1, 2008 whose names are in many state databases as firearms owners.

I have written previously about the serious problems caused to 10's of thousands in Tennessee as a result of the Tennessee General Assembly, with what I understand to be the blessings of NRA-ILA's lobbyist Heidi Keesling, changed Tennessee's criminal code effective July 1, 2008. Below is an opinion by ATF's legal division on the consequences of this adverse change in the law. This was not just "2 steps back" for the issue of gun rights but more like a football field.
Call not only your legislators to demand that this be changed but call Chris Cox at the NRA-ILA.
Anybody from NRA care to address this and give us your side?

Lightworker vs 2A
During Obama’s tenure, the Joyce Foundation board planned and implemented a program targeting the Supreme Court. The work began five years into Obama’s directorship, when the Foundation had experience in turning its millions into anti-gun “grassroots” organizations, but none at converting cash into legal scholarship.David Hardy tells us about it.
The plan’s objective was bold: the judicial obliteration of the Second Amendment.
The Robber State
As the economy collapses, credit lines become constricted, and tax revenues are choked off, we can expect local representatives of the parasite class (commonly called "government") to become perversely creative in finding new ways to extract money from productive people. For parasites looking to feast on the wealth of others, the liberty-devouring fraud called the War on Drugs offers a particularly rich menu of possibilities.Soon to be ratcheted up for the War on Guns...?

Who are the "Only Ones" We Can Trust with Guns?
How often have we been told this though, by police officials, by politicians, by anti-gun groups, by the media? Our laws have been geared to exempt police from carry restrictions in "No Guns" zones, assigning to the uniform and the badge an automatic and unquestioned trust that police are better trained, and just generally more cheerful, thrifty, brave clean and reverent than we mere mortal citizens. They are, we are told, the only ones who can handle the awesome trust of being armed in public. My latest Examiner.com post is up, and it covers a subject very familiar to WarOnGuns regulars.
Hey, not bad for the 2nd day on the job (click image to enlarge)--this may yet make a go if it:

I've started compiling link lists and feeds. Right now I'm looking specifically for Ohio gun bloggers. If you are one, and would like to reciprocate links with my Examiner page, let me know and I'll include your blog in my list.

"Obvious Stonewalling": Savage Finds BATFU in Willful Violation of FOIA Request
Via E-mail :
FOIA request 08-1494
Ms. Graham,
In your final "final response" to my Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for "the documents and final determinations of the investigations" of the four closed investigations based on complaints made by myself or on my behalf.
Due to the poor punctuation in the response I can only assume the BATFE disclosure division meant to cite the following, which BATFE contends is exempt from disclosure under the Title 5, United States Code, Section 552(b):
b(5) inter-agency or intra-agency memoranda or letter which would not be available by law to a party other than an agency in litigation with the agency;
b(6) personnel and medical files and similar files, the disclosure of which would constitute a clear and unwarranted invasion of personal privacy;
It's a bit hard to envision b(6) as being applicable, as I never asked for personnel or medical files. BATFE can probably justify at least some of b(5); however, I don't see how the disclosure division can lawfully withhold the results of the investigations as I originally requested in September.
This is obvious stonewalling. It appears you are parsing words of the law to prevent the results of the investigations from becoming known. Your office clearly stated: "We are transferring these documents to that federal agency..." In other words your disclosure division admits it had the documents and got rid of them to prevent from complying with my lawful FOIA request? Perhaps another FOIA asking for a budget breakdown of how much money your office and the BATFE spent in man hours and all other expenses while responding to my FOIA request 08-1494 is in order? I would think the results of that would be of great interest to the U.S. Inspector General, the honorable Glenn Fine.
Ms. Graham, please respond to my original FOIA request for "the documents and final determinations of the investigations".
Respectfully,
Len Savage

“I dont like guns much, and the reason I don”t like them is because I do like them,” the New York Daily News quoted him, as saying.Nice self control. There's a man I can admire.

If I didn't know better, I might think some of these movie heroes are nothing more than weakling stage props with artificially inflated egos.

We're the Only Ones Signature Marking Enough
A man caught on camera shocking a 15-year-old boy with a taser, just for fun, was a Eustis police officer and he did it after a night of drinking with kids...Yep, it sure looks like this moron is the "Only One" with the mature and sober judgment needed to be trusted with weapons forbidden to you or me (post '86 LEO Only), and in places where you or I (school zones, bars) would not be.
"You're gonna get five seconds. You will have two marks. These will be signature marks," Nesmith tells the 15-year-old on home video showing the incident.
Hey, now that the video has been released, maybe he can sue for humiliation...
We're the Only Ones Entrepreneurial Enough
The TSA reached a mind-boggling new low in customer service this week when it was revealed that one agent had single-handedly absconded with over $200,000 worth of travelers' belongings, primarily cameras and laptops, and proceeded to unload his booty on eBay. His latest haul: A near-$50,000 camera that an HBO employee had been traveling with.I feel so much safer flying, knowing there are "Only Ones" out there like Pythias Brown, who make sure people like you and me (who can't be trusted) don't try slipping anything past "security."

A Rebuke from the "Right"
Similarly, Judge Richard A. Posner, in an article in The New Republic in August, wrote that Heller’s failure to allow the political process to work out varying approaches to gun control that were suited to local conditions “was the mistake that the Supreme Court made when it nationalized abortion rights in Roe v. Wade.”Yeah, that's just what we need: "home rule" for which rights will be recognized.
Hey, who needs a Fifth Amendment when you're in Chi-Town, anyway, huh? What, this rubber hose? It's in case the suspect gets thirsty under all these lights...
We talked about the other supposed "conservative," J. Harvie Wilkinson III (and tell me that name doesn't sound like it belongs cheating at bridge at Thurston Howell's country club) a while back, and again a while back further, and I gotta tell you, they just don't make "prominent" judges like they used to.
Consider, for example, William Rawle, a contemporary of the Founders, the man George Washington wanted as the first attorney general, and whose "View of the Constitution" was the "go to" resource at Harvard and Dartmouth until the mid-Nineteenth Century, who wrote:
“No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give the Congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under a general pretence [sic] by a state legislature. But if in any pursuit of an inordinate power either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both.”We can listen to him or we can listen to Dickie and Harvie. Come to think of it, if we listen to them, we might actually resolve things sooner.

Neither Predator Nor Prey
At 200 yards, Yugoslavian SKS rifles are perfectly adequate. Purchased for under $150 each via private sales, they were equipped with cheap but satisfactory Chinese made 4 power scopes. The Russian made 7.62x39mm ammunition is not noted for its accuracy, but very much so for its reliability. With these rifles and ammunition, the eclectically-armed duo systematically wrecked the resented roadblock.Western Rifle Shooters Association presents an excerpt from Mark Spungin's new novel, "Neither Predator Nor Prey."
The tires went first, then sights shifted to the engine compartments. The two deputies and one of their federal confederates ran as fast as they could to the treeline, covering the several dozen yards in record time and keeping right on going deeper into the forest. The other fed foolishly hunkered down behind his increasingly gunshot gutted GSA.
Mark sent me a review copy a couple weeks back for magazine consideration, and I just have not been able to get to it yet--although I expect to get some read time in the next week. I'm looking forward to it. It looks like Mike Vanderboegh and Matthew Bracken fans should like it, too. Matter of fact, when I told Matt I was going to review this, he let me know "Mark is the real deal. I spoke at last years WSSA meeting, and spent the next week with him driving around WY."
UPDATE: Mama Liberty tells me she has written a review...

We're the Only Ones with "Bare" Arms Enough
"I would guess that very few would want to go back to the early west appearance where people carried guns strapped down on their hip,” said Ken McNair, a retired police officer and executive director of the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association.Yeah, Ken--we've documented case after case of you "Only Ones" being the...uh...only ones rootin', tootin' and shootin' enough to carry on the Old West tradition without stampedin' the herd.
Somethin' about a tin star makes the cud go down easy...
I do want to say a word about open carry--a subject I've been covering more of recently because it's becoming more of a phenomenon. I write about the movement positively because I believe in the choice, but I'm actually not a big proponent of the practice. I don't like giving tactical advantages, telegraphing intel or making myself a target.
That said, if you choose to carry openly, more power to you. It's none of my damn business, although if I see you doing it, I may come up and introduce myself.
Max Poke
'Max Payne' Is Top Gun at the Box OfficeI wonder how many gun owners know about anti-gun Pokey Poke but continue to reward him anyway by patronizing his violent "gun movies"?
Wanting the Right
Should a campus shooting ever happen at Ball State University, Blake Graham wants the right to protect himself by firing back. You have that right, Mr. Graham. Anyone who would deny it to you is a criminal.
Obey and they will victimize you, or disobey and we will victimize you. That's a hell of a choice to force on a person, isn't it? What kind of sick authority freak would do that to another human being?
I applaud you and your group for taking point on this at your school and bringing it into the forum of public discussion. That said, I hope you never suffer because you allowed evil, wrong-headed edicts to overrule your judgment on when possessing the means of defense is prudent. If you decide it is, I pray you're not discovered. And if you are, I hope the predominant sentiment coming from some gun owner quarters isn't that you made us all look bad.
A Little Traction
GunVoter.org is getting a little traction in some of the gun blogs out there...And it's not getting a lot of traction because...?
Ignorance or Intent?
In other words, the mayor and Police Chief Michael McGrath are engaging in a bit of activism, a bit of deliberate indifference, a bit of premeditated lawbreaking and a bit of conspiracy to deprive citizens of their rights under color of authority? Would anyone prosecuting a criminal charge of open carry on behalf of the city be similarly engaged? And importantly, do we all get to ignore laws we don’t agree with, too, and make up our own, or is that privilege reserved exclusively for our public official royalty? My newest Gun Rights Examiner piece is up.
Who will help me plant the seed...?
"Total Failure"
HZ has given me permission to share his recent email to me:
Sad, sad story ....He sent me this email under the subject "Total Failure," and a subsequent email implied he considered part of that failure to be his:
Went to the range to enjoy the fall weather. Absolutely perfect day too ... crisp air, bright sunshine with only a hint of a breeze and the smell of fresh earth after an overnight sprinkle. The first hour or so (I lost track of time) was spent with my bolt action. I was in harmony and the groups were tight. It was time to bring out the M14.
After a few rounds I realized that I was being watched. The range was crowded but it was apparent that one individual had taken an interest in what I was doing. He finally approached and started to ask about my rifle. I quickly learned that he was a new shooter and had only recently purchased his first weapon of any kind, an AR15.
He was now very interested in my M14. It has been a long time since I have been around a brand new shooter that has been bitten by "the bug." The guy almost exploded when I offered to let him put four rounds downrange with my rifle. I coached him through the proper loading, safety and hold. He was still smiling even after the first round served notice that he wasn't shooting a .223 anymore.
He couldn't say thank you enough and came over again a little later to show off his brand new AR rifle. He was as proud as a new papa. After some more pleasant conversation he packed up his rifle, smiled and waved goodbye. He backed out of the parking space (located right behind the firing benches) and drove away. That is when I noticed his two bumper stickers. "Teamsters for Change" and "Obama 08."
I was lamenting (personally ... to you) my total failure to read the person before me. I couldn't help but feel that I should have been doing something more than coaching. No, we're not responsible for those who have so little regard for freedom and so little interest outside their own self-gratification. That said, it wouldn't hurt to be able to sound people out, and to engage and educate when appropriate, be it at a range, a gun store, or wherever the opportunity presents itself. So perhaps this lesson learned will inspire some future success stories.
Thank You for Your Service. Sorry for Your Loss. Now Put Your Hands Behind Your Back
An Army soldier on bereavement leave from her Iraq deployment was arrested yesterday at MacArthur Airport after federal baggage screeners found a loaded gun in her checked luggage, Suffolk police said. That's wonderful--we trust her to deploy with access to all kinds of weaponry in the service of the state, but one little revolver for her own protection and here come the "Only Ones." Welcome home, soldier. Glad we could add to your grief.
Spc. Vonda Collier, who is from San Antonio, did not have a New York license to carry the Taurus revolver found in her baggage yesterday morning during a routine search by a Transportation Security Administration screener, police said.
Too bad she wasn't an anti-gun politician. Or a famous actor. Or even "a beloved comedian."
There may be a silver lining, though. Military people experiencing first-hand what the score is may not end up being a bad thing in the long run...assuming they end up being treated like the rest of us.

Gun Rights Examiner
Now it’s time for a little shameless exploitation of my new hosts. I'd like to extend an invitation to Cleveland area gun rights activists: we have a unique and unprecedented opportunity here, courtesy of Examiner.com, to employ their resources and reach to get our message heard outside "the choir." Let's use it. If you know of a story that can help promote the cause, send me the link as a tip. If you're part of a gun rights group that is fighting a particular battle, supporting or opposing a particular candidate or measure this area is affected by, or if you have an event coming up, let me know about it. If you're an area gun blogger, by all means keep me apprised of work you're doing that Northeast Ohioans would be interested in. Just email me, dcodrea@hotmail.com and put EXAMINER in the subject.Examiner.com has invited me to be their Cleveland "Gun Rights Examiner"--a category they didn't have until I pitched it.
Let's not make this MY Examiner page--let's make this OUR Examiner page. That also means if we post something here that will be of interest to your gun-owning friends and club members that you help spread the word through your email contacts, on gun boards, etc. And by all means leave comments. If the folks running this show see this topic generates interest, they'll be more likely to encourage more of it throughout their considerable media network. And before I forget, I also need to extend an invitation to a very important segment of Examiner readers--those horrified and angered by all of this, and who think the problem is not enough gun control.
This represents not just a local opportunity, but if it's successful, they'll surely be receptive to expanding the topic to other markets.
Back when I participated in The New York Times' Virginia Tech panel, I wrote that if the "mainstream media" sees the topic generates a lot of interest, friendly or hostile, they'll give us more opportunities to use their megaphone.
This is such an opportunity. Just look at the top dog of the whole shebang--and he's a "conservative," which beats the alternative. This is part of an evolving business model for "traditional media"--an adaptation intended to expand its market reach. And it looks like they know what they're doing. Now that they've made a bit of room for RKBA "diversity" in the experiment, it would be foolish squandering not to seize the brass ring.
I don't ask much from WarOnGuns regulars--basically I limit myself to asking you to join me in an occasional letter or email, or to support something I myself am supporting. I'm asking you now to help me spread the word on this--not just now at the launch of this new venture, but as you can on an occasional basis going forward. I won't presume to suggest how, just anything...
Please help me to maximize this opportunity. As I said in my first post, "Let's not make this MY Examiner page--let's make this OUR Examiner page."
