It said he had once fired his gun accidentally after delivering a prisoner to a city jail, never reporting the incident.

It also said that he had falsified his credentials and was essentially unqualified for the job.

It seems the simplest thing would be to just produce incontrovertible evidence for expert examination by all sides. And no, what we've seen so far is not.

This avoidance does nothing to increase confidence in government or diminish distrust. All it does is widen the divide and fuel the conspiracy theories even more--from both sides, including the one that of course BO can prove it, but by not doing so he can draw out making his political enemies look like fools.

It seems a simple enough question to deserve a straight answer for.

Ignoring Gun Owners

CNN's Jeffrey Toobin was recently on PBS, and made the ludicrous claim that the Heller decision somehow has something to do with tanks and SAMs. Toobin went on to say that gun control wasn't an issue for voters this year, because "swing voters don't care about it".

That, along with the "Republicans weren't moderate enough" lie are the two big delusions being pushed.

Perhaps it will result in overconfidence, and too much will be reached for too soon.

Regardless, some of us are through obeying.

What Happened at the Co-Op?

An Ohio Department of Agriculture agent seized food, electronic devices and documents from a Pittsfield Township organic and natural food cooperative believed to be unlicensed, according to a search warrant filed yesterday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

I've been following Internet accounts of this over the weekend and haven't been able to verify what went down.

Some accounts are reporting a SWAT raid.

I haven't been able to confirm this, so I've been hesitant to comment. It would not surprise me to learn the "Authorized Journalists" have once more failed at government watchdoggery, but at this point not enough is known to make a judgment. Just like it would not surprise me to see organic food distributors treated like homegrown terrorists.

If Each of Us Carried a Gun

For anybody who still believed in it, the Mumbai shootings exposed the myth of “gun control”. India had some of the strictest firearms laws in the world...

Some of you have pointed out the Gandhi quote at the end of this column. I've been hesitant to emphasize it only because my understanding is he was advocating government, not private arms. If anyone can document differently, I'd appreciate the education.

One of the two Indian men arrested for illegally buying mobile phone cards used by the gunmen in the Mumbai attacks was a counterinsurgency police officer who may have been on an undercover mission, security officials said Saturday, demanding his release.

Doing the Job "Authorized Journalists" Won't

It will be interesting to see how the Odessa police react to the trap into which they walked. I suppose they could try to press criminal charges of some sort, but if Cooper and company are telling the truth, all they did was engage in perfectly legal activity and wait for the police to misinterpret the situation, probably through the use of illegal search techniques backed by fraudulent claims made to secure a warrant. Under the circumstances, any attempts at retaliation are just going to dig a deeper hole for the local authorities.

One day, as the horse was trotting past the farmhouse during the evening meal, he happened to glance inside the dining room window, and what he saw chilled him to his marrow. Deputies from the Charles County Sheriff's Office had arrived at the house on St. Peters Church Rd. around 7 p.m. to serve legal papers to a resident who no longer lived at that address.

The homeowner said deputies asked her to put her 2-year-old sheep dog, Dixie, inside the house while they sorted things out. The homeowner complied, but her 2-year-old niece pushed the door open a short time later. Dixie came running out, and the deputy shot the dog, according to an account from the homeowner's sister.

I got nothin'. Some "Only Ones" stories just stop me in my tracks.

It would be funny to sic the feds on them for potential environmental "crimes"/Clean Air Act violations, wouldn't it? Anybody knows how, run with it.

Memphis police identified the body of transgender woman Duanna Johnson lying in the street near Hollywood and Staten Avenue early this morning.

Police believe Johnson was shot some time before midnight on Sunday. No suspects are in custody at this time.

An Unusual Tactic

Though drugs were not involved in the Blackwater shooting, the Justice Department is pondering the use of a law, passed at the height of the nation's crack epidemic, to prosecute the guards. The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 law calls for 30-year prison terms for using machine guns to commit violent crimes of any kind, whether drug-related or not.

So, depending on the circumstances, resistance to gun confiscation could result in drug charges?

I guess if it comes to that, it won't really matter.

Given enough opportunities for innovation, I suppose all kinds of unusual tactics might emerge.

Jennifer Davis was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Nov. 18, her contractions just 3 minutes apart. Her husband, John, was trying to appear calm for his wife's sake, driving in the breakdown lane of Route 2. They pulled up behind a state trooper to ask whether they could continue using the lane to reach the next exit, near Alewife Station.

Not only did the trooper say no, he gave them a $100 citation for driving in the breakdown lane, made them wait for their citation while he finished writing someone else's ticket, and even seemed to ask for proof of pregnancy, Jennifer Davis said.

I wonder if this...this "Only One" had ended up under the front bumper, dragged and smeared along the breakdown lane, if a justifiable defense of life argument could be made? Naw, this is Boston, after all.

Remington CEO Issues Statement on HS-Precision

I just got off the phone with Tommy Millner, President and CEO of Remington Arms Company.

First, he assures me the email reproduced on AR15.com is authentic.

He has been in contact with HS-Precision management after getting blindsided by the Lon Horiuchi development, and has also personally read and responded to every email sent to him by concerned customers.

He assures me Remington takes this situation, and lack of response by HS-Precision, very seriously, and completely disapproves of what they have done. He tells me Remington is committed to doing the right thing by their thousands of customers, up to and including changing suppliers if there is no other way to go forward.

As a personal note, I was impressed by his accessibility and candor. We've got a guy caught up in a situation not of his making trying to do the right thing, and my recommendation is to trust that he will.

At this point, we need to see what HS-Precision does next.

That's just one scenario. There are plenty of others, both natural and man-made, and at the risk of incurring ridicule, Reichstag fires to justify new "emergency" powers have been known to happen.

I wonder what government policy would be in a full-blown martial law national lock-down?

I wonder if law and order would completely break down in significant portions of the country and if we in the middle of it would be on our own?

I wonder if--Katrina lawsuit rulings notwithstanding--a military/police deployment would try to round up guns in some areas?

I wonder if gun owners would accept that?

I wonder what some would do once civil recourse via elections and lawsuits was indefinitely suspended?

I wonder how people would react to forced relocations?

I wonder why any talk of preparing for such eventualities is met with contempt and hostility by some? Are they saying the time to plan and prepare is after disaster strikes?

This may be much ado about nothing--standard preparations, they've been doing it since the Cold War.

But still, where in history is any civilization guaranteed stasis? Have not despotism and mass destruction plagued every civilization that preceded ours? Is it not, in fact, still commonplace throughout the globe? By what suspension of reality, by what denial of the observable and the probable, by what art, device or magic are we sheltered few immune from catastrophe? Are we certain, from our brief and privileged vantage point, that such things will ever remain headline curiosities? Is it not just plain stupid to proclaim that our familiar way of life will forever be the norm, when everything that has gone before us shows we are, instead, the extremely lucky beneficiaries of a rare and fortunate convergence of circumstances; and one, by the way, that has only been preserved under force of arms?

While Malone supports the constitutional right to bear arms, he said he is skeptical of the average athlete's mentality when it comes to firearms.

The real problem to me seems to be misplaced social values, where people who excel at ultimately trivial pursuits, and who utterly fail as basic human beings, some criminally, are worshipped. When people no one dares say "No" to predictably go out of (self) control, that should have no bearing on other individuals who happen to share a profession and who don't exhibit such failings.

Malone's quoted words indicate he doesn't get it, and has no business representing himself as a "gun rights leader."

Drunk Drivers Against Guns

Circuit Court Judge Earl Hoffenberg ordered Ditka's driver's license suspended for six months because he had refused to take a test after he was arrested for drunken driving...

Yeah, it was some years ago, but I don't care.

His calling for a blanket ban on gun ownership based on profession was stupid and obnoxious enough to where it's fair to wonder if he'd been drinking.

A Good Thing

In the end, toughening penalties for violating laws that offend people's sense of liberty, justice and common sense doesn't actually improve the viability of those laws. Instead, it widens the gap between how politicians want people to behave, and how those people actually live their lives. It also encourages popular contempt toward government and the law.

That contempt is probably a good thing.

Yesterday, we anticipated the arrival of anti-gun mayors in Cleveland for a public discussion of their plot against Liberty. They did not fail to disappoint.

Nor, we shall see, did our friends in the media.

Here's today's Gun Rights Examiner column.

I was on a conference call yesterday hosted by the Examiner.com CEO. There's been a lot of progress on this start-up venture, which really only began a few months ago, and big plans for investment in growth in 2009.

I cannot over-emphasize, if this column is to be worth the effort, how important it is for friends of this blog who find value here on a regular basis to make a point of visiting my Examiner site and spreading the links to your gun-owner friends. As it stands now, my column is consistently the most popular in both my geographic area and category, but the stats need a lot more growth before any heads are turned.

I hope WoG regulars will realize I'm doing what I can. If you think I suck, I'm not asking you to change your mind. But if you like it here, I could really use some consistent support at spreading the word, or at least clicking on the link and reading the dang thing every weekday.

Gray Lady Gloats

In fact, Mr. Obama has long been a supporter of the argument, disputed by this page, that the Second Amendment bestows an individual right to bear arms unrelated to raising a militia.

And The Times wonders why its readership is in the toilet.

Expect to see these "talking points" parroted all over the leftist media. Also expect it to come from the RINO wing of the Republican party, the neoconartists who maintain we just weren't neoconny enough, and we need to steer the ship even further to port side.

McCain lost because he sucks. He wants to end private sales. Sure, some gun owners dutifully fell in the nose-holding line, but that's not enough. Without inspiration, there is no fire in the belly. That reflects on donations, volunteers, enthusiasm and even participation in the process.

And bringing up Elizabeth Dole as proof that the dream is over? The same Liddy Dole with the huge "but", whose husband also betrayed us? What NRA was doing getting into bed with this cow in the first place is a better story.

Still, The Times may be right, and pragmatic politics may not save us. I know some don't think we should make any plans or practice before the Big Game, or even talk about it, but every serious player I know is doing an equipment check and running through playbooks prior to suiting up.

Just in case anybody actually has to go out on the field and get dirty.

I know talking about the insurrectionary intent the Founders envisioned for the Second Amendment makes some uncomfortable, but without it, what good is it?

Appeal for Information in Fincher Case

Fellow 2nd Amendment advocates:

I am filing a petition for writ of certiorari in the Fincher case pro bono publico. The only hope I think we have of getting the writ granted is a strong showing that the holding of DC v. Heller is being ignored, or, at best, treated with a complete lack of seriousness by the nation's inferior federal courts.

Stewart Rhodes has been capably assisting me on the case, but, I learned tonight, he has run into an unfortunate family emergency which prevents him from doing all the legal research he would like to for Mr. Fincher. This puts me me in a time-crunch, given all the detailed preparation a petition necessarily entails. Hence I reach out to you. If you know or have heard of any cases which might fit my bill, would you please be kind enough to reference them to me?

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. On my own behalf, and that of Mr. Fincher, many, many thanks for any help you might offer.

When you first emailed me I honestly did not recall horiuchi's name so you caught me unawares. I also do not read the blogs so the fact there was an issue came as a surpise.

In any event, HS makes a great product and we are a large customer of theirs. Why they would pick a super controversial spokesperson is beyond me. Doing this violates pure business common sense. Early next week we will use whatever persuasive powers at our disposal to get HS to do the right thing..

Do me a favor and tell those on the bolgs that Remington and I are now fully aware of the issue, in full agreement with the outrage, and will do what we can t exert pressure on HS to reverse course.

Checkpoint Gun Check

We spoke the other day about the proposed domestic deployment of 20,000 troops. A question has been posed to me via email about this photo from the MSNBC story:

Notice the green banding on the weapon of the soldier (a woman?) at the left? Now maybe that just has to do with the sling mounts - but I've also seen those types of markings on unloaded weapons - specifically there so one would know they were unloaded.

Maybe someone else would know more on this - but it led me to wonder if she was just out standing there like a scarecrow?

Anyone who can educate us on this, please do so.

On 02 December 1775, John Mayfield of Browns Creek, a Ninety-Six District militia captain serving under Colonel Thomas Fletchall, was captured along with several other officers at McLaurins Store in the Upper Saluda region. The commander of the Whig forces that captured Mayfield was Colonel Richard Richardson, who, shortly after the capture, wrote a letter to the ad hoc Whig Council or Committee of Public Safety in Charles Town (Charleston).

Y'know, if everybody just did it, what could they do about it?

Our problem is that nobody will--because they know they'd stand alone--and even be condemned by the majority of their fellow gun owners for making "us" all look bad.

This isn't to put down the open carry activists--they're doing what they can with what they've got.

See, litter laws aren't enough. They never are. If you don't behave in ways we don't approve, well, you'll either bend to our will or we'll ultimately kill you if you defy us hard enough.

And naturally, Jenny doesn't like guns, either.

Oh, and since we're at the beach, all you Godwin's Law nazis (who invariably misinterpret its meaning to discourage use of the term) can go pound sand. The beneficiaries of not calling Nazis Nazis are Nazis, and when you consider the word is derived from "national socialist," I don't think we use it anywhere near enough.

The family of Andreas Liveras, 73, the only known British fatality, told The Sunday Telegraph how he courageously evaded gunmen for eight hours in the Taj Mahal Palace hotel as he frantically tried to reassure his family that he was safe.

Pros deride terrible tactics and poor equipment in face of Mumbai crisis

Fortunately, the elites and well-connected were taken care of:

This is a nearly laboratory-perfect example of "gun control" in practice. The lesson is just this clear, just this direct: Disarming people renders them defenseless. Predators don't obey disarmament edicts. Authorities can't prevent atrocities, only respond to them.

That's no surprise to those of us who have been screaming this into the wind for years. Whether the dawning of realization will stick with the "Authorized Journalists," who's voices drown out ours, remains to be seen. I doubt it, but if anything will illustrate their intellectual disconnect, this will:

That's odd--the latest Brady News Release is silent on the whole affair, focusing instead on doing what they do best--recycling and magnifying old lies to further erode the foundations of Liberty.
