I Still Can't Access Examiner

Apparently there are intermittent server problems and the tech team is working on it. Some of you can access it and others cannot. I'm in the "cannot" faction.

Because the opportunity to capture traffic today has been so severely impacted, I'm going to hold off posting what I wrote for today about the Oakland shootings.

There Oughtta Be a Law

Now, Jessie's parents are attempting to launch a national campaign seeking laws to address "sexting" - the practice of forwarding and posting sexually explicit cell-phone photos online. The Logans also want to warn teens of the harassment, humiliation and bullying that can occur when that photo gets forwarded. [More]

The Logans are free to warn anyone they want about anything they like. As for the rest of it, my natural inclination to feel sympathy for them has been overshadowed by more negative sentiments.

It's the creation of Cleveland GRE Daniel White, and I'm very grateful that he took the time, made the effort and showed the leadership to do this. It's especially been a pain because Examiner urls are long and convoluted--so this give us a common link we can use to better publicize our work.

Reflecting Poorly

The judge made a great ruling. Guns should be restricted when ever and where ever possible.

Bringing a concealed gun into a national park is simply ridiculous. I do not want some trigger happy yahoo packing a gun into a park where me and my family might be spending time.

The fact that commentators on this site are all for breaking the law reflects poorly on the gun rights movement, and only confirms the suspicion that restrictions on gun ownership is a positive for society. [More]

What this means is Judge Kollar-Kotelly, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Brady Campaign, et al, subscribe to the perverted value system that the potential for an immeasurable effect on the environment outweighs the right of a human to defend their life and the lives of their loved ones. Virginia seems to have taken full advantage of the special opportunity open to her. Ships entered the states rivers at will. For example, on March 21, 1777, the Virginia Gazette reported that a shop from Nantes carrying 30,000 pounds of gunpowder, a brig from St. Eustatia, and a schooner from Curacoa had sailed up the James River. I was up early to get my Gun Rights Examiner article written before taking youngest feral son Qusay to his tonisillectomy. He is fine, although I don't expect to see him screaming execution orders for at least the next few days. You wish you could take your kids' pain away and bear it yourself, but that's part of life they need to learn to deal with, and the pain meds and banana Popsicles do take the edge off. Anyway, he was a champ, very brave, and he's being stoic now. That's my boy.

I'm done in. Think I'll process the 200 emails waiting for me and maybe take a nap. That's it for today.

Anyone with the type of mind that can grok legalese without wondering whether it's "across the highway" or "down the street," please translate this, because I have a few questions:

Could "volunteer community service" credit be received for young people engaging in firearms and paramilitary training activities? You know, assuming their U.S. Code-recognized militia duties for the security of a free state? And could a lawsuit be an effective means of overturning ideological discrimination if the government says "No"?

I know the preferred course is to refuse to participate, but just as a precursor bit of monkeywrenching, wouldn't it be nice to smash these Marxists over the head with their own damn chair? You know, CUM ULLA SELLA IN PUGNO TABERNA...

Then again, I may not. I'm still a bit peeved.

I will note that it looks like the government is getting closer to adopting an obvious solution I proposed years back--and not just for air travelers, but, well, for everywhere we need to protect ourselves from each other.

It all started after a burglar alarm at the car dealership on East Napoleon. An employee arrived ahead of police and went inside to check the business. He had a flashlight and a gun. When police saw the employee inside they thought he was an armed burglar and fired shots, while the employee thought he was being fired at by a burglar. [More]

Naturally, the chief defends his guy for firing the first shots.

I guess it beats admitting to "Only One" training deficiencies. But it make me wonder how plain clothes officers can react during violent crimes with any degree of confidence that their greatest danger won't be "friendly fire". Then again, noting the marksmanship, perhaps I worry too much.

Ah well--failing to kill him, at least they arrested the poor sap who returned fire...

A Day of Miracles

Traffickers have escalated their arms race, acquiring military-grade weapons, including hand grenades, grenade launchers, armor-piercing munitions and antitank rockets with firepower far beyond the assault rifles and pistols that have dominated their arsenals.

But the other thing I want to point out is a total failure of "mainstream media," the ones going belly up, the ones deriding alternative media, bloggers, activists, et al, to bring this story to the public's attention. This isn't a case of them getting it wrong--this is a case of them not getting it at all. Alice Doesn't Live Here Any More

Alice Holler, a smoker from the Meyersdale area, said she doesn't have a problem with helping children. But coupled with the state smoking ban, Holler said smokers are being hit too hard. The ban started in September and prohibits smoking in most public places.

“I feel they should start taxing something else instead of cigarettes,” she said while walking along West Main Street in Somerset on Thursday. She suggested levying a tax on alcohol instead.[More]

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents seized 10 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from a southbound pickup truck in Southwestern Arizona on Saturday. On Thursday, CBP officers found rifle barrels, firearm accessories and gun powder in a tractor-trailer attempting to exit the U.S. for Mexico in Pharr, Tex. And on Wednesday, CBP agents in Laredo, Tex., discovered a collection of weapons and ammunition hidden in a second truck destined for Mexico. [More]

I still don't see that offered as a solution, nor do I see any movement toward the one you do offer becoming the...uh...norm.

So...uh...Norm--what are your thoughts on citizens carrying firearms--and being able to defend themselves against abusive official goons like you describe? And as someone who "rose" to chief, you no doubt saw it all and know how pervasive it is.

And by the way--did that "principled prosecutor" throw your thuggish ass in jail? If not, how principled could he have really been? Offhand, I'd say "Not very," because you ID yourself as a "retired Seattle police chief," not a fired and convicted one.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, after administering a field sobriety test to Raymond L. Bell, Parker "wrote that Raymond L. Bell lost his balance and used his arms to steady himself." Also, after telling Bell to stand on one foot and count to 30, "Parker marked Bell down for lowering his foot and also for hopping, using his arms for balance and swaying."

But the video shows Bell walking the line without difficulty, and then standing and counting with equal ease. [More]
