The Sound and the Fury

The palm-sized device designed by Qinetiq, the British defence firm that was once the government research laboratories, is pinned to the uniform and uses acoustic technology to calculate the exact position of the rifle fire.

Then a electronic voice passes on the "bearing and range" to the soldier allowing him to jump to safety and return fire...

Although the range and accuracy of the device is kept secret for operational reasons Mr Steinman said they were well beyond the capabilities of a sniper.
So I guess that means it'll be withheld from We the People, the Constitutional citizen militia...?

"Aligning our expertise with government needs..."

Yep. Sure looks that way.

A Word About Fudds

I note some of the gun blogs have picked up on a complaint from the ol' Fuddmaster himself, Bill Schneider, and caution us that use of the term is not productive because it divides gun owners.

I find it curious that the objection is not to his continued use of the term "Gun Nuts." Talk about something that makes us all look bad.

Shneider has no credibility with me--foremost because he has been given incontrovertible proof on the subversive nature of AHSA, yet he continues to portray them as a legitimate alternative for gun owners to support.

Then there's his hysterical judgmentalism over the entirely self-inflicted Cooper fiasco:
Gun Lobby Attack Dogs Strike Again
What kind of people suffer no remorse when intentionally destroying one of their own, his company and his employees to make their point?
There was no organized lobbying effort, and he knows this. There was no First Amendment suppression here, and he knows this.

This was purely an exercise in fed up gun owners deciding who they wish to freely associate with. That's "what kind of people." And notice he called us "dogs."

Note also what he said about Obama:
While in Butte, America, for the Fourth of July, Barack Obama told the press, “There is not a sportsman or hunter who is in legal possession of firearms who has anything to fear from me.”

I happen to believe him. I hope most other hunters do, too, because we can make the difference on November 4.
Now I want to clarify something about the term "Fudd." It is not used by hard-liners like myself to insult anyone who participates in shooting sports or hunting or prefers shotguns over EBRs.

It is used as a reaction to "sporting use"-ONLY gun owners who throw the rest of us under the bus in the belief that their hobby will be protected, that they won't be eaten next.

Seems to me these Fudds deserve a little name-calling. There's nothing to divide--they're not on my side. They're either stupid, detached freeloaders who enjoy the protections of activism while not lifting a finger to help, conscious sell-outs, or outright enemies.

But don't worry, I'm not going to call any AHSAhole who falls in the latter category a "Fudd." In recognition of their special treachery, these wormtongued subversives deserve their own term:

Mudderfudders.

Safety Trumped Pleasure

John Dyke never thought he'd be parting with the two guns he uses for target practice. But safety trumped pleasure, so he turned in his weapons to the Broward Sheriff's Office during their buy-back program...
Quite simply put, John, I do not believe you. I don't believe you're really that stupid. And if you're not someone with an agenda, I almost pity you.

Almost.

And yeah, Lt. David Holmes--I'm sure those are all "illegal guns" you're getting "off the street." I'm sure "the entire community" is now at considerably less "risk."

And leave it to the "Authorized Journalists" at CBS 4 to add their editorial bias and gin up the hysteria.

Enough to fill an entire table!

That's it? That's news?

I guess it does let them get their intended message across:
40 weapons have been collected. That's 40 fewer chances for a tragedy to strike.
That it's also 40 fewer chances for a citizen to protect themselves isn't even given mention. What a preposterous idea!

After all, only the "Only Ones" are qualified to possess guns, particularly lying anti-gun "Only Ones" from the Broward County Sheriff's Department.

Lying anti-gun "Only Ones" from the Broward County Sheriff's department who spent time in the federal pen, that is...parasites who are still trying to find a way to reattach to the body of their host.

Yeah, these guys are just plain better than you and me.

And certainly better than John Dyke.

Salvation Through Disarmament

The man said he bought the gun after discovering that his wife was leaving him for another man. He planned to shoot his wife and her boyfriend, and then turn the gun on himself, Travis said. The man then asked his pastor to turn the gun over to police for him, Travis said.
In other words, it was an illegal transfer? What with all this church/state separation, a pastor trumps California law?

Did you even establish that the "confessing" cuckold was, in fact, a "gun owner" as defined by law? It is Bell Gardens, you know. I merely ask, because he is what is presented to us as a typical "gun owner"--miserable, lost, unstable, challenged in his manhood, dangerous...

But Hallelujah! I've given up my gun and now I'm saved!

The message here, of course, happily brought to us by anti-gun "Authorized Journalists," is that the only way to save yourself is to be defenseless. The "Only Ones" competent to keep and bear arms are highly trained professionals like Lt. Jeff Travis, who push the idea that this nonsense will have an impact on "gang-related crime."

Jeff knows it won't, of course. But he did get his name in the paper, and you just know his actions please the masters.

He's actually pretty smart, in an insidious, manipulative kind of way. I predict that boy will make captain!

Greg Nickels--What a Piece of...Work

State law allows private property owners to prohibit the presence of firearms on their property.
But public plunder isn't private property, is it, you miserable con artist?

Since the state is going to do nothing to stop this criminal, I'd suggest a citizens' arrest--that is, if you could get past his taxpayer-funded armed bodyguards...

This Blog is Lightworker Approved

Barack Obama's choice for Attorney-General, Eric Holder, has stated that he favors 'reasonable restrictions' on free speech on the Internet.
It reminds me of that line from "The Menagerie" in the original Star Trek:
Wrong thinking is punishable.
Right thinking will be as quickly rewarded.
"Reasonable restrictions." Where have we heard that before?

Change is a-comin'.

UPDATE: Correspondent TC sent me a link to Instapundit's post, which in turn links to The Volokh Conspiracy. The "context" does not persuade me, from a citizen militia standpoint, from a banning basic chemistry standpoint, and from a camel's nose under the tent standpoint.

Answer the Question

Ready? This is the question: Mr. Helmke, if what this is really all about is "safe streets" and "public safety" how does sparking a bloody civil war further those objectives? The answer is, it doesn't. It can't.

Law enforcement personnel in Denver allowed a car that is evidence in a murder case to be auctioned, then went to the buyer and retrieved the vehicle, bloody bandannas and metal pipes the new owner already had cleaned out of her purchase.

Great News!

We are told to expect the final tallies from the counties still outstanding to be announced by early next week, and I expect to be making a formal statement then. For now, I think we can safely say that the fat lady is singing – and she’s singing our song.
Uh-oh. I think Tom McClintock just alienated the Rosie O'Donnell vote.

We're the Only Ones High-Power Enough

Nearly 100 teens marched outside Chicago police headquarters Thursday night to protest the department's plans to equip officers with semi-automatic rifles, saying the weapons could make the streets more dangerous.

Carrying signs like "Stop the War on Youth," teens said they didn't trust police with the high-powered weapons and worried gangs would be encouraged to bolster their own arsenals.
Arthur McGraw certainly sounds like a boy genius, doesn't he(?), although I agree with him on one point--I don't trust them either. And why does his "Southwest Youth Collaborative" remind me of the Young Communist League, right down to their Lightworkeresque "community organizing"?

I wonder where fellow travelers Jesse and Snuffy were? Well, at least they're leaving John R-i-g-g-i-o alone and going after not just "Only Ones," but Chicago "Only Ones" (who, I confess, I wouldn't mind seeing reduced to billy clubs as an experiment--just to see if there was any behavior modification).

A Party in San Benito

I got an RSVP!

And y'all know what a party animal I am.

I haven't had this much fun since I got that invitation from Marshal Dave! (I only wish I had time to compose another WarOnGuns Bite-Me-Gram). Maybe Deputy Reyna can arrange for a local visit...?

Naturally, I'll be pleased to post future correspondence.

I wonder if this guy realizes I'm actually chuckling as I type this?

An Appropriate Response

And while I'm glad the standoff ended peacefully with an appropriate response, and that responding officers showed such restraint, tell me they would have held themselves back once in position around one of our houses. Tell me the flash bangs and the gas grenades wouldn't have been used to flush us out, and that positioned snipers wouldn't have taken us out should we so much as twitch while stumbling blindly and retching our way to air.

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column...

A Negative Maligner

David is so negative all the time...

Please don't malign ALL of the people in the Military and police forces...
Huh. Sorry if I give those impressions.

For the record: I am happy. I laugh every day with my kids. Hugs, kisses and "I love you's" are daily occurrences in my family. My favorite word is "puppies."

And as for the "maligning" charge, allow me to repeat something I've reminded WoG readers of several times--perhaps I need to put this in the sidebar:
The purpose of "The Only Ones" has never been to bash cops. The only reason I do this is to amass a credible body of evidence to present when those who would deny our right to keep and bear arms use the argument that only the police are professional and trained enough to do so safely and responsibly. And it's also used to illustrate when those of official status, rank or privilege, both in law enforcement and in some other government position, get special breaks not available to we commoners, particularly when they're involved in gun-related incidents.

We're the Only Ones Documented Enough

Can't let a citizen know things that might be useful in defending himself against criminal charges, can we...?

I have mixed feelings on this--my main objection centers on Peterson's "Only Ones" status being used to justify him having guns the state would deny to you and me. As for the rest of it, my feelings based on what I've heard from the media aren't enough--bear the burden of proof and find him guilty, and we'll talk.

A Pressing Non-Threat

The fact that Attorney General nominee Eric Holder is no friend to gun owners is not a surprise. What may be a surprise, and worthy of examination at his confirmation hearing, is Holder's post-9/11 contention that a pressing threat to our national security is terrorists shopping for weapons at U.S. gun shows.
Why is that a surprise?

The Brady's have been promulgating that lie for years.

Following a Trend

Ten days ago, I posted a link to a dire prediction by "trends forecaster" Gerald Celente.

I just received an email:
I work for Trends Forecaster Gerald Celente. I had been going to blogs that have referenced his work and getting the contact information so we can send emails (weekly Trends Alerts) and keep blog owners updated on the latest. I...figured that you would know a few people on those gun-rights sites who would want to be on Gerald's email list. If so, please forward to me.
I don't do that to people who trust me with their email address, but if you're interested and want to know more, go to Celente's site and feel free to contact them there.

It's Ba...ack...

No need to wear the mask any more...

But I do wonder why someone who is not yet officially president-elect (that won't happen until the Electoral College makes it so in December) gets a .gov website, but by "virtue" of this treason appearing there, I guess that makes this an "official" ultimatum.

This Day in History: November 21

I expect, during the confused usurpation of power, that an officer of the customs, if he only acts with spirit, or as his duty and oath binds him, that he will immediately fall under the lash of the damned Committees, &c., who, on such occasion, will show them as little mercy as they themselves may expect in the future world; and as I have on sundry occasions opposed their measures, and strove to convince the deluded people of their error, I have, by that means, rendered myself obnoxious to them, and no doubt if ever in their power, shall have their whole weight of vengeance laid on me. But while I am acting in favour of Government and my own steady principles, I make no doubt but I shall be able, with half their number, to meet them in the field; as I hold it to be an established point that those who fight, or take up arms against Government, are always in dread, and fight to great disadvantage, knowing that they are fighting against their sovereign, by whom alone they can hope for assistance against their real enemies, and who, out of his grace and favour, has offered them protection from all their foes, and who would be glad to see them return to their duty, and embrace the proffered grace.

Disappearing Act

The marks will be hustled and the snake oil supplies depleted (until they can make up a new batch for the next show). But here's what they'll be doing with the hidden hand as our attention is redirected by their stage moves and incantations: They'll make liberty disappear a little bit more. They'll reinforce the hypnotic suggestion that the average person is just too untrustworthy and incompetent to keep and bear arms, and that they, the ruling class and their enforcers, are the "only ones" qualified to possess them.

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column explores a dark magic trick.

E-Tyranny v1.0

Officials emphasized that the use of the new software is voluntary and that the data entered on the form are not being used to create any sort of government database of gun ownership.
Yeah, I believe that. Why wouldn't I?

This isn't the software BATFU...uh...ripped off from a private developer, is it?

A couple things stand out at first glance:

As long as the feds are going to racially profile, does it seem that one group might be conspicuously absent in this post 9/11 era of the War on Terror/ Homeland Security? Oh wait, my mistake--Pacific Islanders are there...

...and apparently filling out a dot is acceptable on the e-form, but entering "Y" or "N" on a paper form is a "willful violation."

Still, we can't entirely discount the benefits of technology. F'rinstance, I can't wait to purchase my tickets to the next Good O' Boys Roundup online...

I Dunno...

Storing firearms in a gun safe is a highly effective safety measure and acts as a crime deterrent as well. The city of Los Angeles would pay nearly $13 million to immigration protesters and bystanders injured by Los Angeles police officers during a melee at MacArthur Park last year, according to sources familiar with a tentative settlement reached by both sides.

We're the Only Ones All Fired Up Enough

Naturally. And it's nice to see the "Authorized Journalists" at the AP continue to run interference for the police state by not disclosing the offending "Only One's" name.

No matter, KDBC 4 News is on it:
...Jose Maldonado...

And get this--he's a Republican...

Who replaced a corrupt Democrat:
Cameron County Precinct 1 Constable Saul P. Ochoa will spend the next 57 months in federal prison. The convicted constable was sentenced this morning in U.S. Federal Court for selling marijuana confiscated in drug seizures.
Which apparently is the type of law enforcement they want down there, because Maldonado beat the known thief by less than 400 votes. Is it safe to assume that if you're dealing with a "lawman" in that part of the country, you're dealing with a criminal, and your safest course might just be to repel them?

Here's the responding deputy's report. How nice to see such professional courtesy. He records "bloodshot eyes, slurred figure of speech [sic], unsteady balance and a very strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath," and then says "I was not going to relinquish [sic] his weapon because he was a peace officer with the county and needed his weapon for work."

Perhaps I'm being unfair, and am just jaded by too much exposure to stories about police corruption. Perhaps Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio can restore my faith in justice for all, with no special privileges and immunities for those entrusted with a badge.

The Continental Congress regularly received quantities of intercepted British and Tory mail. On November 20, 1775, it received some intercepted letters from Cork, Ireland, and appointed a committee made up of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Johnson, Robert Livingston, Edward Rutledge, James Wilson and George Wythe "to select such parts of them as may be proper to publish." The Congress later ordered a thousand copies of the portions selected by the Committee to be printed and distributed. A month later, when another batch of intercepted mail was received, a second committee was appointed to examine it. Based on its report, the Congress resolved that "the contents of the intercepted letters this day read, and the steps which Congress may take in consequence of said intelligence thereby given, be kept secret until further orders." By early 1776, abuses were noted in the practice, and Congress resolved that only the councils or committees of safety of each colony, and their designees, could henceforth open the mail or detain any letters from the post.

Communist Goals and Christians

One of the most distressing things about modern America is the total lack of understanding about how an individual’s thinking (and hence behavior) affect society and contribute to the destruction of the United States. Today, it is not just communists that think like communists, but fundamental and evangelical Christians as well. Why? Because they have accepted communist ideas, without understanding those ideas and movements in society were and are utilized by communists to achieve certain goals.

This is the Guy

Pending passage through the vetting process, our next Attorney General will be Eric Holder.

Armed and Safe tells us of a nominee who wants to impose the centerpiece of the McCain small arms control agenda on us, closing the dreaded "gun show loophole," that is, ending all private off-the-books sales.

It gets worse.

For instance, he's also a big fan of waiting periods, and pre-crime, and the Brady Act, and one-gun-a-month, increasing the disarmament enforcement bureaucracy, mandating lock-up-your-safety, and disarming the age demographic that put his prospective boss over the top.

Holder statement-May 1999
When the AMA analyzed the success of Virginia's one-gun-a-month law, it found that the number of guns connected to crime traveling Northeast from Virginia fell 20%.

Holder statement-June 1999
Even worse -- for the events that it does cover, the bill weakens the current law by cutting down the amount of time law enforcement has to complete pre-sale background checks, from 3 working days to 72 hours.

Holder briefing-October 1999
[W]e need Congress to pass the common- sense gun safety legislation that is in the Senate and that has been passed in the Senate by a bipartisan vote. We need to extend the Brady law protection to gun shows and flea markets and deny guns to those who committed violent offenses as juveniles, require child- safety locks on handguns and give law enforcement the tools that it needs to further reduce gun crime. We also need to have the COPS Program fully funded.

Statement as Deputy AG
Of course, our strategy does not rely merely on punishing offenders after crimes have been committed. We are also working to implement measures to prevent gun crimes before they occur.

Gun control debate
ERIC HOLDER: A mandatory 72-hour waiting period for all happen-gun purchases will help stop heat-of-the moment killings and a proposed increase in the minimum age for handgun possession from 18 to 21 will get hand guns out of the hands of the most crime-prone age group.
This is the guy.

This Day in History: November 19

November 19, 1775 at Sorel, Quebec - On November 19, the Patriot forces blocking the St. Lawrence River near Sorel captured 3 armed British ships and 8 smaller crafts with their crews and cargoes, and the British garrison from Montreal. Conclusion: American Victory

A Thousand Fathers

Forget results. A compliant media presenting them as "successful" is all that's needed. As long as the general perception is that "Crimestoppers" stops crime, the incentive is to be a part of it all. What's that JFK quote? "Victory has a thousand fathers..."

Here's today's Gun Rights Examiner column. Hopefully, some will want to distance themselves from paternity claims...

Stupid's Up

We learn all we need to know about Ben Cole from this comment he added to his obnoxious little rant:
I’ve got more damn guns than I can count...Guns really suck.
When it comes to sucking, who are we to argue with an expert? Ditto for stupid.

Bond is UK Top Gun

Just don't tell Daniel Craig. We don't want to upset him or anything.

Then again, I think all that money probably gives him a quantum of solace...

We're the Only Ones Prioritizing Enough

Police are set to prioritize the escalating juvenile gun culture on the Peninsula with programs such as a new gun buyback after the shooting deaths of four teenagers in Hampton and Newport News in as many months.
Well then, no need to worry. Everything's under control, isn't it?

If that's a good enough solution for highly trained professional "Only Ones," that's good enough for me, and I take back what I said.

We're the Only Ones Vindicated Enough

"It's very good news for both the officers involved," O'Neill said. "It's almost a day of vindication, because we said that as soon as all the facts came out, it would show there was no wrongdoing."
Ah, very good. No one should be prosecuted for having the means of defense and using it when justified.

Well, almost no one:
Charges remain against a fifth Iron Pigs member, Defense Department firefighter Erik Pingel, whose firearm possession was not covered under the federal statute permitting law officers to remain armed under most circumstances.

Pingel had a concealed-pistol permit from his home state, Colorado, but may have violated a South Dakota prohibition against carrying a firearm where alcohol is sold.
Sorry, chump.

I should have said "No 'Only One' should be prosecuted..."

You and I don't qualify, and are fair game for violent criminal attacks in bars. I think it has something to do with cops being able to tolerate alcohol better than the rest of us. Either that, or our lives just aren't as important...

The Play's the Thing

Desert Hills High School administrators and a school resource officer thought a pistol they approved for use in the play "Oklahoma" was a harmless imitation until a blank discharged from the gun Saturday and killed a 15-year-old student.
Here's more information on a story we talked about yesterday.
[T]the parent didn't tell authorities the gun was real.
Yeah, how are "authorities" supposed to know?

And, of course, what would a " gun report" by an "Authorized Journalist" be without this?
...a blank discharged from the gun...

...the gun that shot Tucker...

We're the Only Ones Along for the 'Roid Enough

What's more, the seller -- Brian Jackson, then a strength and conditioning coach for the much-heralded Oregon City High School girls basketball team -- told the informant he didn't worry about getting caught by the police because he was selling to the police...

"What you don't want is a more aggressive police officer...
What who doesn't want?

"Only Ones" on steroids. What could go wrong?

[Via Ed D]

We're the Only Ones "All Dogs Go to Heaven" Enough

Twice in recent days, police officers have gunned down family pets in incidents where the animals posed little or no clear threat to humans.
That's something we've talked about many times here. My guess is, the type of "Only One" who would do this is pretty confident the system will back him up and the dog's owner won't respond in kind.

J.D. Tuccille tells me the use of the term "service revolver" is "actually from a quote from the local police chief. Maybe his department is where everybody else's gear goes to die. :)"

Technical Difficulties

As cops, our focus should be simple: stop the bad people among us from harming the good people.
Would that it were. But when edicts are tyrannical, there's a huge difference between "bad people" and good people who defy bad laws.

So until the day comes when that's recognized and applied in the field, I'd just as soon that you not focus on any basics that will make you more effective at controlling me and mine.

This Day in History: November 18

We are very sensible that your men, without some assistance, must suffer from the cold, in so severe a climate, and are anxious to do every thing in our power for their relief. From the very circumstance of their being ordered to join General Schuyler's Army, we supposed they were to be considered as Continental troops, and therefore no provision has been made for them by the Congress of this Colony. You say paper money will not pass there; no other can be procured here on any terms.

The Lady of the Gun

She looks like she could have been my mother, or perhaps yours, if your parents were of “The Greatest Generation.” In one sepia photo, she drapes a dark coat across her arm. In the other she’s wearing it. She stands by the side of a house, or perhaps a garage, looking off in one picture, toward the camera in another, appearing first, serious, and then — is that a smile?

She was young. She was pretty. Who was she? Somebody’s sweetheart? Somebody’s wife? Is she still alive? Did she end up having children, grandchildren …?

And whose gun were the Plexiglas-covered photos on the grip of the 1911 Army .45 affixed to?
"The Lady of the Gun" is my Rights Watch column for the December 2008 issue of GUNS Magazine.

The original Star-Telegram story on which much of this is based has disappeared from their site. Fortunately, A Keyboard and a .45 posted a picture of the grips back when this story first appeared.

A Snitch in Time

Meet Summit County Crimestoppers, sponsors of the local "Goods for Guns" nonsense, and a self-described " program designed to encourage cooperation between the citizenry and the law enforcement community."

How do they do that? No, not through anything that will teach us how to protect ourselves until the police arrive. Instead, they offer "the citizens of Summit County direct and easy access to their law enforcement community and incentive in the form of anonymity and reward."
Here's today's Gun Rights Examiner column.

Shooting Blanks

A 17-year-old Washington County high school student died Saturday after firing a blank-shooting prop pistol used for a play. [More]
What do they think an explosive discharge through a metal tube is going to do? Ruffle their hair?

The liberal arts aren't really all that strong on basic physics, are they?

This is the same type of ignorance that Jon-Erik Hexum killed himself with.

And naturally, his co-star at the time, Jennifer O'Neill, who gave herself "a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen" is big on "gun control."

Many adult actors really do appear to be less mature than your average high-schooler.

So: who thinks encouraging young people to be ignorant about handling firearms is a good idea? You know, if we only banned guns, we wouldn't need to train them because stuff like this would never happen.

Too Many?

"The common link between all of these homicide cases is guns," Buske said from San Diego, where he had attended a police chiefs association meeting.

"There are too many guns in the hands of people willing to use them to harm others."
If you think real hard, chief, there's a corollary to that.

Hint: There are too few guns in the hands of people willing to use them to _____.

I'll wait. I'm sure it will come to you. Won't it?

We're the Only Ones Realizing Our Dream Enough

They appeared in court on Thursday to argue that Mr. Hernandez, who served a year on Rikers Island for illegal gun possession, a felony, before joining the Army, had turned his life around so impressively that he deserved the judge’s help to realize his dream: joining the New York police force.
Far be it from me to suggest that mere possession of a firearm should ever disqualify anyone from anything.

But then, I'm not the one suggesting it, am I? It's the "Only Ones" who are once more getting privileges while the rest of us would get nothing but pain.

As long as you serve the Masters, all is forgiven. And no one can lift a finger.

Care for a gun?

And the Larry Hincker Award Goes to...

Larry Hincker!
"We're disappointed and frankly not happy, and we expect to get some assurances that this won't happen again," Tech spokesman Larry Hincker said.
What, your stupid, expensive after-the-fact alert system failing, or prohibiting an immediate active response?

And who says utter failure doesn't pay?
Charles W. Steger, president of Virginia Tech, was paid nearly $720,000 during the same period...
I wonder if Larry got to lick the plate?

"You'd think they'd have a backup for this kind of thing," Hincker said.
That is supposed to be the backup, you dolt.

I am honestly starting to think that he is this dense.

Regardless, one small satisfaction--for some time now, and hopefully for a good long time, I'll always be right there looking over his shoulder...

Fighting for Bloggers' Rights

If you're a blogger, this website is for you.

EFF's goal is to give you a basic roadmap to the legal issues you may confront as a blogger, to let you know you have rights, and to encourage you to blog freely with the knowledge that your legitimate speech is protected.

To that end, we have created the Legal Guide for Bloggers, a collection of blogger-specific FAQs addressing everything from fair use to defamation law to workplace whistle-blowing.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer

A memorabilia collector has been jailed for five years for possessing a Second World War rifle listed as a prohibited firearm. The rifle was not in a condition to fire live ammunition...

Judge Maxwell said Parliamentary guidance meant strong sentences should be given for illegal firearms possession. “I feel bound to impose the minimum sentence of five years,” he added.

No One Forced You

"It's not something you are entitled to keep confidential," Orchard said. "No one forced you to acquire a handgun."
That's fine, Jack--no one forced you to act like a Quisling--for profit. You want to be out there doing things for personal gain that impact the rights of your countrymen like this, it would seem fair if your private information became public--along with the private information of those employing you.

At some point, someone is going to realize that when people say they want to be left alone, they mean it.

One thing that gets me about this though, is no one is apparently trying an obvious reaction to this. We know the Mail Tribune is a prime instigator. We also know times aren't good for the newspaper industry as a whole.

Gun owners should organize and pick one advertiser, so they can keep their resources focused, and make it their problem, too. Convince them that their advertising dollars are financing an attack on their customers' rights, and persuade them to suspend it. Then move on to the next one. It's a peaceful and responsible reaction that allows for acting locally, and I'd bet a couple dozen committed and creative people could pull it off. And it doesn't have to be all stick--it doesn't take too much imagination to conceive of some carrots that could be offered to make it worth a retailer's while.

But I've been chanting that mantra for some time, to no avail. I really don't expect any but a handful to actually do anything, and any but a handful of those to do anything that doesn't rely on political popularity.

And we wonder why we're reaching the point where some of us, a small but serious percentage, are feeling like we're cornered with nowhere to go but through, while others scold us not to growl at the tormentors because it scares people and makes all gun owners, meaning them, look bad by association.

We're the Only Ones Highly Recommended Enough

Gundersen was acquitted in September of two dozen counts of spousal rape, but convicted of 11 counts of battery and illegally possessing both a submachine gun and a pistol with a silencer -- charges he is due to be sentenced for Friday.

But, with the District Attorney's Office still deciding whether to proceed with charges that Gundersen raped his then live-in girlfriend in 1999, the Trinidad Police Department recommended Wednesday that Gundersen be charged with a series of theft and embezzlement charges stemming from his tenure as Trinidad police chief.

"Why does the police department get to determine who is a journalist?" Siegel said.

Two Very Good Reasons...

...the GOP is trying to purge John Boehner from his house leadership position, and replace him with this pliable, gun-confiscating wretch:

Boehner Demands Fed Identify Recipients of Loans

and

Boehner Pans Money For Autos

Who but the corrupt, the bought-and-paid-for, would oppose his first initiative. And who but a usurper would oppose his second? The thieves are just trying to cover their tracks in the first instance, and return to the scene of the crime in the second.

I'm not a Boehner cheerleader. I've expressed caution on the guy in the past.

The reason the Republicans blew it, and isn't it curious that neocons are partnering with socialists to claim the opposite, is because the base is sick and tired of being betrayed, and compromising further under the false promise of what's represented as political pragmatism, but what is actually surrender.

We're the Only Ones A Scanner Darkly Enough

Lomita has become the latest South Bay city to begin using computerized technology capable of scanning thousands of license plates a day.

It is presently the only local city that contracts with the Sheriff's Department for law enforcement services to use what's known as automatic number plate recognition. (Carson had one, but the car it was installed in was totaled in a crash.)
That last bit actually made me laugh. It's the only thing about hurtling headlong into the total surveillance state that does, all aided and abetted by our friends, the "Only Ones."

Good thing "the American Civil Liberties Union has signed off on the idea because it does not involve racial profiling." Marxist states like Cuba don't really care what color the proles are, either, and if you have any doubts about the ACLU in Southern California...why that's funny--I just searched their site for three terms, "Heller," "Second Amendment" and "gun" and came up empty on anything resembling a retraction or an apology...

But they've done their job permeating the public consciousness well, you can't argue that. Not only are cities all over the South Bay jumping on board, you even have the mayor of one of the most well-heeled, chock-full-of-capitalist communities, and a lawyer, to boot, someone who probably once took a college-level multiple choice test on the Bill of Rights by his sophomore year, asking "Should you really have an expectation of privacy when you drive on a public street?"

Of course not, Mr. Mayor. Any more than we'd expect our First Amendment right to be recognized if we, say, videotaped the cop or disagreed with him. Any more than we'd expect our Second Ame...ah, you guys know the drill: Fourth Amendment trunk search, Fifth Amendment self-incrimination, try to exercise any one of these with the attitude that you're a sovereign citizen and let the cruel and unusual punishment begin, on the spot, the streets being Sixth and Eighth Amendment-free zones as well. Should we really have an expectation that it would be otherwise? Hell, we don't even expect these things in our homes anymore.

One final note: Everybody caught the last name of the Lomita community officer, right? I suppose the irony is either lost on him or it's why he chose the line of work he did...
