Madison officials have fired the police supervisor of the midnight shift after officers under his watch were accused of inappropriate relations while on duty.

A hearing ended at about noon for Sgt. Tim Heiden, who police have accused of failing to monitor officers during their shifts. The officers have been accused of theft, stalking and meeting with prostitutes and felons.

Because, you know, "The Only Ones" are so superior to you and me in terms of character, judgment, trustworthiness, morality..all that stuff.

That's why "Chief Jakubson is a respected member of...[the] International Association of Chiefs of Police..."

We're the Only Ones Dealing Enough

Three more New York City police officers have been suspended without pay and stripped of their guns and badges in a widening police corruption investigation that involves paying confidential informants with drugs, officials said on Wednesday...

Because of problems arising from the scandal, prosecutors have moved to dismiss 80 criminal cases because the officers caught up in alleged wrongdoing were considered critical to successful prosecutions, law enforcement officials said. A hundred more potentially tainted cases are being analyzed, officials said.

Read the whole thing. It's just disgusting.

The UK's "Spiralling Problem"

The spiralling problem with gun culture was highlighted by figures that show 28 firearms crimes are committed in England and Wales every day.

Couldn't they have a lie-in or a buyback or something--you know, something that's been proven to work...?

There were 10,182 firearms offences in the year to the end of September compared with 9,755 in the previous 12 months - an increase of more than 400 crimes, or more than eight every week.

And those are just the crimes that were reported, mind you. If businesses are only reporting one in eight 8 crimes, what do you think the chances are those living in or around the criminal subculture have a higher rate?

Or that the ones being reported are properly accounted for?

A Cautionary Tale

On January 19, 2008 I had a negligent discharge of my pistol. It's a Rock Island full size 1911. .45 ACP loaded with Federal Hydro Shok ammunition. This round utilizes a 230 grain jacketed hollow point bullet...The bullet entered my right inner thigh above the knee and exited the calf a couple of inches away lower and more to the rear of my thigh on my thigh.

A first-hand account and it ain't pretty, but is is sobering. Photos are included (just a warning to the squeamish).

The Other Badness in the Bill

One of the local TV stations did a story on upcoming gun bill hearing. In the story, they misreported some info (I know, shocking). I've seen this bad info popping up on gun blogs, and have tried to fix it.

Here's the skinny: This law is all kinds of bad, but part of the minor stuff is that it requires all retail gun dealers to provide trigger locks. KMTV reported that it mandated the USE of trigger locks.

The problem is it's not part of the bill and diverts needed attention from the real threat...The GunViolence Commission. Take a look at

If there is any good news, it's that small amounts of money will actually matter to this organization and your contribution is tax deductible. They are continuing on with their effort to file a brief to the Supreme Court regardless of the support they receive.

This is a critical moment in history. The Supreme Court will decide if the Second Amendment recognizes an individual right and whether that right is deserving of the same level of judicial protection afforded to the other rights recognized by the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments).

Are you tired of your Second Amendment rights being a second class citizen? Ignored, inferior and constantly infringed by tens of thousands of municipal, state and federal outrages? A situation the Bush Justice Department legal brief to the Supreme Court has supported. A situation the NRA has tolerated and even been partly responsible for creating. (For example, the machine gun laws from the 1930s and the 1968 Gun Control Act).

This is your one chance to support people who are trying to change history instead of funding the NRA Executive Director's golden pay package. This chance will probably not come again for a long, long time. Prospects for a pro gun president are nil, and the new President will be appointing more Supreme Court Justices. We cannot afford to put less than a maximum effort into winning this case.

From the founding of our country to today, many have given their lives in defense of our freedoms. I'm just asking you to give money.

Oral arguments begin on March 18. Briefs to overturn the ban are due Feb. 4.

The hard work in preparing briefs is being done right now. Don't delay.

Of the fired employees' estimated 200 work days a year, the investigation showed that they visited pornographic Web sites 100 times per day, Mayor Adrian Fenty says.

Employees from 18 city agencies, including the Office of the Attorney General, were accessing pornographic or sexual Web sites.

I caught a clip on CNN the other night, John Edwards shaking hands with men inside a gun store in South Carolina.

Why are there no charges concerning the weapon? Answer: The gun was probably in the residence legally...Because the federal assault weapons ban expired in 2004, if you can pass a background check, you can legally own such automatic guns...

We don't need to get into the cliche debate of general gun control, but I hope few would argue the need for automatic assault weapons within city limits.

Yes, the Constitution protects the right to bear arms, but we know that is not a license to hold exceptionally dangerous weapons such as bazookas, machine guns or assault weapons. As the federal government decreed in 1994, assault weapons just don't belong in our communities.

I urge the city council to further investigate this matter and consider, at least, passing a measure requiring all owners of assault weapons to be registered with the police department. I would personally advocate a ban of such guns within the city.

A Question About Homeland Security...

Principles in Politics Matter

Even though I've left California, I've stayed on State Senator Tom McClintock's mailing list. I backed him in his run for governor and tried to warn people about Schwarzenegger, but, as with the current Ron Paul bid, the compromisers and "pragmatists" sided with the establishment, not only earning themselves the .50 ban, the lead ammo ban, microstamping--but providing a template for antis across the nation to use against the rest of us.

In his latest email, Sen. McClintock lists some bills he is supporting and opposing, along with why, and one he is neutral on, Prop. 93, Term Limits. As he explains:

Since I’ve only served eight years in the Senate, Prop. 93 would give me one final term; if it fails I must retire this year. Because I have a conflict of interest, I’m staying out if it.

Power does not corrupt if one places principles before it. Character counts. It counts.

But continue making excuses for following proven frauds--monsters, really, who have made no bones about trampling your rights into the ground, making you a criminal if you defy their edicts and destroying you if you don't comply.

Hey, maybe McCain will pick Fred as his runing mate...I guess there's no amount of excuse-making people won't tender. (And incidentally, McClintock endorsed Thompson, so I don't agree with him on everything, just as I don't agree with Paul on everything.)

Besides, "Ron Paul can't win." We've told ourselves so, and we're bound and determined to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's a lot easier than rolling up our sleeves and trying. Thank God that attitude of pre-ordained defeatism didn't stop the men who won us our freedom by putting their very lives on the line to secure it for themselves and their posterity. Against all odds--conventional wisdom said they couldn't win, either.

We can either honor them by maintaining that spirit, and realizing yeah, there actually is a price to pay, or we can posture ourselves as leaders and warn how if Hillary wins, we'll lose our gun rights!!!

Some of us won't, at least not that easily. And I'm sure there'll be no shortage of forum warriors to assure each other how such extremists make them all look bad.

A passenger who went through an airport security checkpoint -- before remembering that he had a loaded gun -- is facing charges after going back to report his error, authorities said.

Yeah, that's because he proved to them what a big threat he was. Plus, it's not like he's somebody important, like mayor Frank Melton or state senator Juan Hinojosa, or district court judge Sylvia James or anybody...

This Day in History: January 24

...in 1776, Colonel Henry Knox reached the headquarters of the Continental Army in Cambridge. The young Boston bookseller had pulled off a daring plan. He had led a small group of men on a 300-mile journey from Boston to Fort Ticonderoga in New York State. Once there, the party disassembled cannon taken when the British surrendered the fort and retreated to Canada in May 1775. In less than two months time, Knox and his men moved 60 tons of artillery across lakes and rivers, through ice and snow to Boston. On March 7th, 2,000 Continental soldiers maneuvered the guns to a hill overlooking the city. The British had no choice but to evacuate Boston.

About Last Night...

Anybody catch the pander-fest?

First of all, can you imagine if someone proposed a Congressional White Caucus?

The way all three of these creatures tried to out-self-abase each other was nothing short of disgusting, not to mention frightening. Nothing like stoking the fires of resentment, hostility and entitlement to further divide the Republic...I mean, democracy.

Barack making repeated references to Edwards being a white man, and telling us he hasn't seen Bill Clinton dance so he can't say if he's a brother, made me wonder exactly why Jimmy the Greek's career was ruined.

I find it more than curious how not only the left, but especially the false right, is trying to paint Ron Paul as a racist, with this blatant hypocrisy shoved right in everybody's faces by CNN, with none of the usual suspects saying a word.

Forgive me if I just don't get it. I come from the school that says if you treat me like a human being, I'll treat you like a human being.

Everything else is just ignorance, propagated by those who don't know any better, or in the case of some who stand to gain power, those who do, and are counting on the fallout.

Wayne police have found a rapid-fire submachine gun that had been missing for at least two weeks.

But they won't say exactly where the nine-millimeter weapon turned up on Monday.

Oh, gee, I wonder why.

We might ask the "Authorized Journalists" why they didn't press on this point, or what New Jersey "Only Ones" intend to do with such weapons--particularly when, based on results we can see the lax control they employ in their keeping. But I'm actually more interested in finding out where one can get a magazine for an MP5 that's between around 22 and 27 feet long to accommodate being able to "shoot 700 to 900 rounds per minute."

A man suspected of smuggling a gun into prison for Billy Wright's killer was a Special Branch agent, the inquiry into the LVF leader's murder has revealed.

Yes, when "gun murders" take place in UK prisons, you know all those citizen disarmament laws are working the way they're intended. And if you read the whole article, you'll see this was the second incident of smuggling one inside.

About 100 supporters of the measure lay on the Capitol lawn to honor the victims of gun violence, as about 200 opponents stood nearby, holding signs that read, "Here Lie Disarmed Victims."

Any time the antis want to stage an event where we get two times the representation is fine in my book.

Don't you just love the absolute separation from reality by Colin Goddard? He experienced utter helplessness, useless to himself and all others, and saw first-hand what placing "full trust" in the police got him. What kind of "man" would actually prefer to be a pathetic victim?

I just can't muster any sympathy for volunteers.

An Illinois State trooper had the handcuffs slapped on him when he was arrested Thursday on one count of theft and three counts of official misconduct.

According to the complaint generated by an Illinois State Police internal investigation, between Feb. 10 and Aug. 20 last year, Rinaldo exerted unauthorized control of $300 to $10,000, all of it property of the Illinois State Police...

Notice how, when it's a crime against the state, as opposed to mere citizens, releasing the errant "Only One's" name is no problem? And the "property" vs. "plunder" debate notwithstanding, how the same folks who wouldn't bat an eye at confiscating yours sure seem to keep a jealous eye on theirs...?

In Haynes v US, the court ruled "...A proper claim of the privilege against self-incrimination provides a full defense to prosecutions either for failure to register under sec. 5841 or for possession of an unregistered firearm under sec. 5851..."

Tell me refusal to obey a requirement to report a lost or stolen firearm by a prohibited person wouldn't be viewed as "a proper claim."

They try to get around that with this:

Note it only guarantees amnesty against registration violations, not violations of possession. And it fails to note that the state of Nebraska is utterly without legal authority to guarantee a pass for federal violations.

There are plenty of other traps and crap in this abomination, but this is the one most often overlooked.

The Clement brief reflects cowardice on the part of the Justice Department, and a desire for expediency over what is right...

Possibly, but I think it reflects more on the cowardice of gun owners who have enabled the betrayals all these years by continually rewarding the "lesser of two evils" with political power. They've actually got the justice they've earned, and now we all are living with it.

It also reflects on the cynical manipulation by some in convincing others that the "Vote Freedom First President" represented a vote for freedom, as well as gullibility to the point of willful negligence of those desperate to swallow a lie that told them what they wanted to hear.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not criticizing Alan Gottlieb and Dave Workman here. I think it's past time those with national prominence in the gun rights movement took the gloves off and gave this administration what fer.

I would like to see them take this a step further, and join with Gun Owners of America in calling on Bush to withdraw this brief. And GOA goes a step further by "invit[ing]the National Rifle Association to join it in fighting this anti-gun development."

This Day in History: January 21

Washington directs each regiment to send out two officers to purchase weapons for their unit. Soldiers enlisting with their own firearms are promised one dollar for its use and reimbursement if the weapon is lost during the campaign.

We're the Only Ones Kissing You Off Enough

A Houston woman and her husband filed suit against state Rep. Borris Miles on Friday, asking that he be tested for sexually transmitted diseases and claiming he forced a kiss on the woman at a holiday party.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office has been investigating a complaint that Miles entered a St. Regis Hotel ballroom uninvited, confronting guests, displaying a pistol and forcibly kissing another man's wife.

"Displaying a pistol"?

He reportedly "referred to himself as a 'gangster' and a 'thug' as he "threatened a business rival and brandished a gun."

And this same article tells us:

In July, Miles made news when he shot a man in the leg who was apparently trying to steal copper wiring from a home Miles was building. He is licensed to carry a concealed weapon and was not charged in the shooting.

Just one thing about that. It didn't stop him from "oppos[ing] a bill giving Texans stronger right to defend themselves with deadly force."

I guess now we can see why.

A Solution We Can All Live With

We need a stricter gateway of regulations and education system before people are allowed the privilege of handling firearms. Had Hunter been taught the proper handling and laws of gun ownership, and had Talovic had to go through months of gun education, the Trolley Square incidents could have been prevented, and the life of Vanessa Quinn could have been saved. An extended waiting time and licensing for the initial privilege of gun ownership -- keeping guns in the hands of only those who have proven themselves worthy -- is a solution we can all live with.

The United Violent Stalkers of America salute Janice Kopaunik's proposal to require "months of gun education" before any in the "law-abiding" victim pool can obtain the means of defense. And they applaud the University of Utah for not teaching their starry-eyed charges that perceived benefits can't be effectively assessed without understanding there will always be associated costs and unintended consequences.

I'm sure young Janice thinks she's come up with something original that people of good will and moderation can all get behind, so I won't burst her bubble nor waste space addressing stale arguments that have been debunked many times over the years. Besides, by checking that out, the minimal research she should have done before affixing her brand name to this will do her some good.

Suffice it to say, "No."

County Administrator Andrew Kalmar said the officer, Glenn Bigley, was injured when his semi-automatic pistol discharged. The bullet struck the officer’s ring finger, according to Kalmar.

Yet again, the "pistol discharged." All by its own self, no doubt.

But does this mean maybe someone in "authoritah" will realize there's really no justification for creating an "Only Ones" exemption for being armed? That maybe some of us mere sovereign citizens--you know, like those of us who have been around firearms for decades and never come close to negligently shooting ourselves or anyone else-- might actually be just as qualified, ethical and judgmentally sound to be entrusted with bearing arms as Frodo of the Nine Fingers here?

We're the Only Ones Smelling of Unfairness Enough

As expected, a second former police officer in Tuxedo Park has been sentenced not to time in jail, as requested by the prosecution, but to three years of probation and 150 hours of community service...This is similar to the sentence received last month by another former member of the department who pleaded guilty to the same misdemeanor...No one will explain how the police chief, involved in this and even worse crimes, could have received no jail time, no probation and no community service after pleading guilty to a felony, not a misdemeanor, and costing the village many thousands of dollars in investigations.

Previous requests for some public explanation of this glaring discrepancy have brought two responses — silence and a not-so-veiled threat that the newspaper does not deserve equal treatment by lawyers or judges if it persists in questioning these inequities...

Such thuggish behavior does not erase the court record...This Tuxedo Park case smells of unfairness or worse..

Well as long as Michelle is getting a break, why not end the Tuxedo Park saga the same way?

Maybe we should recognize January 16 as "Only Ones Leniency Day".

I do wonder though, now that the "Authorized Journalists" at the Times Herald-Record have figured out you can't trust the cops and you can't trust the courts, if they think this monopoly of power business is a good idea or if it leads to "thuggish behavior"--and if they "smell" the "unfairness" of it all...?

Lockney Justice of the Peace Michelle Araujo drew 10 years probation and a $5,000 fine after pleading guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of her husband.

Fred Pulls Ahead on Heller

Asked his opinion of the Second Amendment and the Solicitor General's request that the DC Circuit Court remand the appeal back to the trial court for "fact-finding", the lawyer turned Senator from Tennessee said the Bush Administration was "overlawyering" and stated that he opposed remand and that the case should move forward to the U.S. Supreme Court.

I'd still like to see what I originally called for along with this, that is, "detailing what he would do if he were president."

I also recall advising "Don't let Fred Thompson beat you to the punch on this."

Oh well. The Ron Paul campaign had a no-cost opportunity and they blew it, and kudos are now going to the candidate to whom he is most vulnerable for gun owner loyalty. And that, Kent Snyder, et al., is what happens when you "rest assured."
